My friend and I are considering moving away together.
We would be going to the Knoxville, TN area. We call it our 'home'. We travel there any chance we get - we love the area. It would be a fresh start for two young people who are miserable where they live now. We've got nothing keeping us here - no other friends, no real responsibilities. There are lots of schools in the area for us to transfer to. Nice schools, at that.
The only thing I'm hesitant to leave behind is my job. It is only a retail job that could be easily replaced anywhere in the world, but I really like the position I have and the benefits that come with it. I'm just afraid I won't find another job I like, even if I am just keeping it through college.
I'm wondering if anyone here has ever done anything like this. We don't know anyone who lives there, and it's a good 5 hours away from our hometown. It could either be a fresh start or something we end up regretting. _________________ Words are very unnecessary; they can only do harm... - Depeche Mode

| Do it! And do it while you're young because it gets a lot harder as you get older. No sense at all in living somewhere you hate if you have the means to get out. Worst case, you could always move back later. |

I say go for it. Better than being stuck in a town you don't like for the rest of your life.
I emigrated from England to France five years ago (still learning the language) and don't regret it at all. Better to try something new in life than end up growing old and full of regret for not being more adventurous when you were younger. |

If it's a big retail chain then the possibility of a transfer exists. |

How about looking for a new job first, then moving when you find something you like?
I moved all the way across the country to get a job in my special interest. Worked out really well. |

I just moved to Nashville last summer! No job at the time, recently married, a couple cats and dogs.
It's probably the best decision I've made to date! |

^^ Yes, quite.
Go for it or gone for it, Manders hasn't been back since 2010 to tell us either way.
If she does, a shiny new thread would be good. _________________ Giraffe: a ruminant with a view. |
