Hello everyone.
I was just wondering at what age you knew your preference. I am too young for dating but I already feel as though I like boys more than girls. I can not talk to girls like I can to other boys and I do not find them to be pretty but my best friend, a 13 year old boy called Samuel leaves me with butterflies in my tummy whenever I see him. Am I too young to feel like this, am I alone?

| 17 when I realized it, but only because I was being incredibly dense about it. I mean, for god's sake, I new that I liked looking at the other guys in the gym locker room back when I was 12! |

You're still too young to come to any conclusions regarding your sexual orientation, so I'd say give it time. Still, you're not too young to feel that way. Those feelings are totally normal no matter what age you are. I remember having feelings toward other guys way back when I was in preschool. I didn't actually acknowledge and accept that until I was about fourteen years old. _________________ What fresh hell is this? |

Pfft, that's not a bad age. I was 20!
With hindsight, the clues were there from at least age 7. |

| I started having crushes on (fancying) other girls when I was around the age of 9. I had thoughts like, "I wish I could be a boy so she'd like me the way I like her" and "Is i normal for a girl to like another girl the way that a girl normally likes boys?" |

There was a 15 year old metal-head/goth that lived up the street from me that I had a crush on when I was 9. _________________ Empathy Quotient Test Score: 63

| 7 or 8 eight years old, I think. I had an extremely strong infatuation with someone else who was also a girl, but much older than me. |

12 when I applied the label to myself. It was perfectly clear to me at that age, and there was never any doubt in my mind.
That's not to say that I was happy about it--that took longer. But I knew. _________________ --James |

I knew from the age of 7. It was clear, but it took me a long time to accept it. Like you, when I was that age, the people I was attracted to gave me butterflies, and I also wanted to spend all my time around them, get them to notice me, impress them, etc. _________________ Transgender. I was probably about 17 when realisation slapped me in the face I was gay. But probably started to notice it when I was 6 or 7 looking back! _________________ Diagonally parked in a parallel universe |

| I knew by age 6, even though I did not have a word for it except to think that I was more a boy than girl, which I was in other ways also. I had no problem accepting this about myself ever. Neither did my family, but they are all pretty Aspie. But not gay. |

I would say that I knew (more like I accepted myself) when I was around 18. But as I think back, I really knew it as long as I can remember, that I had a preference for men. I was just being stubborn about it |

I started getting crushes on guys at about 10 or 11, but looking back, I felt different as far back as I can remember. The realization came at 15, self-acceptance at 18. But I never fit in with the "gay community" any better than I fit in with any other social grouping. Finally I quit trying to fit in & decided to just be myself.
Straight people can never tell that I'm gay, & even people with a reliable gaydar often take a while to figure me out, because it's Aspieness, not gayness, that comes through in my personality.
In my being it would be impossible to separate the 2 strands completely, but I have to say that growing up gay wasn't nearly as challenging, or life-defining, as growing up Aspie. |

Most of my childhood I always 'experimented' with friends, puberty hit me and I was completely confused about what I wanted, I finally stuck with liking the same gender more once I was 16 and I've been the same ever since.
I still haven't been in any relationships though.. |
