Saw this last night. Everyone should see it. The main character has AS, the child actor playing Oscar nails it.

With as many people there are that get offended by the stereotypes of people that are on the "Autistic Spectrum", I would think the portrayal here would be equally offensive.

The book was ten times better but the movie was not bad.
The film actually cut one character form the book out completely.

The problem with portraying Oskar with AS is that the book never mentions it at all.
Oskar had aspie traits but it is not certain that he is an aspie.
Hollywood like money and aspergers is trendy in television so why not exploit it again to make millions of dollars

Hollywood did succeed with the emotional effect.
It was quite ironic when people watch an aspie on screen while sitting in the theater with an actual aspie.
I'm sure they can relate to a fictional aspie more than the real thing.

Actually in the movie Oskar says he was tested for Asperger's Syndrome for the results were not conclusive. So in the movie he is not labeled as Aspie. But he has so much Aspie traits I do not get how he results were not conclusive. My daughter shows less Aspie traits and she was diagnosed with Aspergers. Oskar IS Aspie.

I was sitting in the theater with my two Aspies: my husband and my 12 years-old. My husband enjoyed the movie A LOT. My Aspie daughter did not like it AT ALL. She found all the Aspie traits in the main character annoying. It was pretty funny, because she found annoying things that she does or used to do.

I don't know... I could relate to the kid in a lot of ways. But I hate that he says "Asperger's disease".

Well, it is not correct but it can be explained because he is only a child and as he was not diagnosed probably he did not research about it.

It is the fault of the screenwriter for not doing his job. Asperger's is NOT a disease.
