Hmm.. I actually know a lot of girl gamers. A lot of the girls I know play Skyrim. I know Gears of War is really popular with a lot of women I know for some reason

I'm not all that familiar with Skyrim or Gears of War. Are they single-player or multi-player games? Are they strictly on line or computer games?
Personally, I prefer playing with people, not machines. |

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I got burned out on gaming.
To answer your question about Skyrim, it's on PC, and also on XBox and Ps3. It's pretty much a single player game. |

Sadly everything is trending towards multiplayer (which is good for those who share your oppinion). I Detest Most multiplayer gaming because of the huge amounts of epeen waving and douchebaggery present in 99% of gamers. I definitely prefer my single-player RPGs and the occasional MMO. I dount mind split-screen multiplayer gaming because of the fact that you can always choose your company, You can't however silence ignorant pieces of sh** such as 10 year olds shouting/spamming bullshit in multiplayer games without a blacklist (Or those where you have hit the blacklist cap)
Sadly single player gaming is dying because gaming is so damn mainstream now that it almost solely caters "social Gaming" anymore.

Skyrim is a single player RPG that requires some real.. commitment... to complete. To put it lightly. But its a pretty fun game. My friend and his gf are both addicted to it. My last gf also was into games and played Skyrim's predecessor Oblivion somewhat religiously. She doesn't really fit the stereotype of "gamer girl" either. Gears of War is a game series that allows cooperative play through the campaign, its a third person shooter on Xbox 360. I know quite a few guys who play this game with their gfs. Its pretty simplistic for new gamers to get into and the cooperative mode is really a lot of fun so its a game that "couples can play"
What do you mean by playing with people? Hide & go seek? Tag?  just kidding I know what you mean. Then again, one does play with people through these machines, sometimes

It's not impossible to find some decent people in online games who aren't exactly close by. I've had one group of friends who I started out playing Halo 3 with for a couple years now. It is true, though, that there are a ton of little kids and otherwise people who just don't grow up. Because of this I usually just stay in parties with these friends rather than go into game chat. Co-op games like Borderlands or Saints Row 2 are also a lot of fun.
I'm hoping that the next Smash Bros. will have better online(well, I hope that the WiiU has better online in general. I don't mind multiplayer games splitscreen or offline, but for those without many local friends it's a bit harder to find those to play with who are nearly as interested as you are. All that said, I still enjoy single player games the most.

| I play a bit of videogames. My favorites are Lord of the rings online(but I hardly ever do any group quests), Dragon age origins and DA2, Fable I, II & III, Portal, The Sims, and Skyrim. I also LOVE the Sly Cooper series on PS2, but I don't have a ps2 anymore, so I haven't been able to play it for a while:( |

Popular mainstream gaming is becoming more populated by mix gender
But The female gender will become more significant when you have programmers and developers that cater to the niches of that population. Basically the gaming industry needs more creative women to enter into the profession and have more of an influence on design
Ultimately when it comes down to it both genders enjoy the samekind of games but the aspects of enjoyment and expression are what differ
The sims series and open source transport tycoon are both open sandbox games
More women by far play the sims. Why? Because it allows a greater expression of creativity. Transport tycoon only allows that expression in how you shape and built a macro network or infrastructure.
Its kinda engineer mind set versus the artist if you want to stereotype it.

Well, I think there are more female gamers (ones that are more "hardcore" if you will) than there used to be, but the stereotype is still there of male gamers never getting laid, when it seems nowadays, it is definitely much more possible for a geek to get a girlfriend.
I mean, I'm a female gamer myself. I love RPGs and right now I'm addicted to Skyrim and I met an awesome geeky guy who likes the same. Though, we are still definitely the minority and probably will be for a while, but I feel as though our numbers are slowly increasing, but it mostly depends on what you constitute a gamer as.
Still, some "gamer girls" just like calling themselves that to garner attention even though they know really nothing about video games. |

I played video games a lot ever since I was in grade school. I didn't even know about the "girls don't play video games" stereotype until I got online at the age of 23.
It's hard to know exactly how many girls are playing a game because some will play as male characters and there are also many people online that believe everyone is male and if your character is female you are a g.i.r.l. (guy in real life). I've seen people on the forum for the mmorpg I play say that they just assume everyone in game is male. I've had people in game and on the forums try to insult me or discredit whatever I was saying by saying I'm a guy in real life. |

In MMORPG's, especially ones that have a focus on character customization and fashion are the games that tend to have a lot of females playing. The current MMORPG I play has probably near the same amount of females as it does males, males taking a slightly larger amount of the playerbase. This game focuses on PVP/PVE/Aesthetics. When I see a female in game it is nothing special, I don't go wow a girl! Omg I can't believe a girl is playing!... But I know it is common for a lot of the guys (or teenage boys especially) to be surprised or shocked a girl is playing.

| What I wonder is why a lot of games still dont cater to women or have women playing roles. Shooters like Call of Duty for example, all have only male characters to choose from. Maybe its just inappropriate to have violence associated with women. RPGs seem to be the only games that have female characters. |

Eh, most of the time, when given a choice, I prefer to play as female characters. Guess I'd be one of those guys in real life? mentioned earlier. But yeah, a lot of newer RPGs give you a choice, though I do feel there have been a lot of strong female characters, even if not all are necessarily in the lead role. The Mass Effect games seem to have plenty. Halo as well. Gears of War 3 introduced some. You've got Samus, Zelda, Midna, etc. Final Fantasy seems pretty balanced when it comes to both male and female characters.
Mostly I'd chalk it up to that it seems a lot of people who create these games are generally male. Not true for all, of course, but I feel that writing for the opposite gender would be outside the comfort zone for a lot of people. So women should hurry up and take over the industry already.
