Mho (℧)
Because it is, in all ways, the inverse of "Ohm" (Ω). Neat way to come up with a unit name. |

My favourite word is "clopen".
It is only ever used in the context of a branch of mathematics called topology. In topology, there are "open sets" and "closed sets". If a set is both open and closed, then it is called "clopen".
I like this word because it is a strange combination of (1.) ridiculous, (2.) obscure, (3.) paradoxical, and (4.) useful.
EDIT: Apparently, I was wrong! There are a few other uses for this word, although they are probably at the level of in-jokes. To "clopen" can apparently mean to close up shop one day and then be there for the opening the next day. Apparently, "clopen" is also a buzzword used to describe the distribution model of some Android software (as in, "clopen-source"). |
