Bullsnaps. Even less than Jesus or Mohammed. At least Mohammed went into a cave and recited a bunch of gibberish. Joseph Smith is even more ridiculous.

Mr. Smith did have quite an imagination, although his writing is extremely poor.

I do not think it is a sect of Christianity.

Not exactly on topic, but it should not matter that Romney is a mormon politics wise.

I think it does matter that someone wants to be president who also believes white Jews inhabited North America and built the monoliths of Mesoamerica and that all other faiths are "an abomination"

Joseph Smith seems like a cheap con man. Dishonest to the core, he tried to hide his polygamy and even proposed to the wives of several of his men, who didnt like that much. The only props I'll give him is that he went down shooting. He put three rounds, at least, in the men who shot him.

His big mistake was trying to create a religion in the era of the printing press, newspapers and court records. It was a lot easier to reinvent your life story thousands of years ago. It worked in a wonky sort of way but LDS will always be haunted by the records and accounts of Smith's time.

I don't believe a lot of what the book of Mormon has to say. My family on my mother's side is predominantly Mormon, and a good amount of them (I believe) don't talk to us because she left the church.

They also keep track of you in files and although she left the church years and years ago, they still manage to find her somehow.

I lived in a small town in Eastern Washington for about six years growing up, and when some of my friend's parents heard that my mother used to be a part of the church, but no longer wanted to join, their families were cold to me, and wouldn't let me in their houses.

Maybe it's just the Mormons I've met... but, I find a lot of them to be very close minded about the rest of the world that isn't Mormon.

I honestly don't know much about Mormonism. I don't believe Joseph Smith was a "prophet" obviously but I don't really view any differently than any other religion. The views on race I find disturbing as well.

The couple Mormons I've known were nice people however. I think as with most faiths, the normal people are no were near as dogmatic as their holy text is.

No its not just you. It is an inherent part of the Latter-Day Saint Movement; as I quoted earlier:

Joseph Smith wrote:
"My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right — and which I should join. I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong, and the personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in His sight: that those professors were all corrupt . . ."

Everything not Mormon is "an abomination". If that is not closed mindedness or even extreme prejudice then I'm not certain what is

I don't have an issue with the LDS and never have. It's a church with unique qualities like many others so I don't see why it would be an issue with me.
The fact that one of our presidential candidates is a Mormon does not bother me at all.

^His religion is like Islam, it does not hold a high regard for respecting others' religions/beliefs. Your faith is an "abomination" according to the Book of Mormon. You can bet his policies would benefit the LDS Church first and the rest of America second

I think that Mormonism is a religion for people who don't think that America features enough in the Bible.

That too. I mean the Garden of Eden was obviously in Missouri

They said that about Kennedy and the Catholic Church, y'know. Not that I would support Romney if I was American.

Mormonism is to the U.S. as British Israelism is to Great Britain. In both cases, people felt like their country was clearly the most important in the world, and wondered why God kept talking about that Israel place instead of somewhere more important.

He asked people's opinions, how is providing mine derailing? Furthermore its an opinion based upon the religion's holy books own words.

Kennedy and the Catholic Church are not Romney and the LDS though. The LDS is a powerful, wealthy and influential lobby that has shown itself willing to assert its interests in even places without sizable Mormon populations
