They make them because they can charge more for tickets to 3D movies.

Since when does Hollywood require an excuse to do anything?

it was a hit before, its assumed to be a hit again. Oh, and the whole thing about reintroducting classic movies to a new generation.

I have no problem with it, if you don't like it, don't see it, simple as that.

Most remakes aren't very good, and 3-D won't help make a poor movie into a good movie. There is one outstanding exception that I can call to mind of a remake being far better than the original. The original "Ben Hur" was a black & white, silent pix. I've seen it, and it wasn't very good. The 1959 remake, with Charlton Heston, and a whole big stable of other stars, was a fantastic picture. They made some changes in the script that improved the story, the 1959 one had a grander, more wide spread theme. There were a lot more stars, and better ones at that. The whole movie was just better made in all ways, the second time around. I have seen that version a number of times, and will again.

I read an article that said that one motivation for 3D by the movie companies was that options like Netflix were eating into their business, and they wanted to give people something that they couldn't get at home. Of course, I now see 3D flatscreens on sale so I guess Hollywood is screwed. Maybe next they'll do "smell-o-vision," 4D/5D/6D. Or maybe they'll lower ticket prices (yeah, right).

That's because Hollywood studios don't like risk and have no better things to do that crush all creativity and imagination coming from the creators.

I wouldn't assume that industry made films equate to story quality. You might explorer the independent film genre. Often times independent films have much more substance and have equally good cinematic quality.

I don't think making remakes will decrease people making other, slightly original movies, but yeah. It really is nothing more than making money. ( Nearly Everything that's anything has been done before. Or its just that animation can't handle it yet...)

From Maddox.

I found when I stopped watching television, I stopped caring that movies weren't very good anymore, as I never saw ads for them.

Don't get me started on the horror remakes. Modern horror sucks. too much cgi, it has its place don't get me wrong but it's used too much give me practical effects and real (fake) blood anyday. Also people used to make the movies they wanted to make and weren't controlled by the big boys who cared about the bottom line ($) and the PG13 bull.

Maddox <3

I don't think Hollywood's run out of ideas, they're just not willing to fund anything without some guarantee of success.
Why take a chance backing X film by unknown director/writer Y when they can just fund a sequel to some crap that they know's at least going to break even before it goes to other countries and DVD plus merchandise.
I've been to the cinema twice in the past five years. That's terrible.

3D was big in the 80's, why the sweet mother of all that if f***ing perforated is it still going. It's like Hollywood thinks that people develop amnesia; they get in to trends, the trend passes, time passes then they re-release the trend and everyone thinks it's new. You would not believe the amount of customers at work that thought the 3DS was a marvel of technology, I almost didn't have the heart to say that the technology for 3D has been around for over 3 decades, almost...
I think I'm in a "no bullshit for me this next hour please" kind of mood Smile
And whoever keeps on making romantic comedies that you can predict before the script has even been penned please be incarcerated.
