THAT IS SO NOT TRUE! I am always told I am like Sheldon, but I have friends. And it's not just me. Loads of Aspies and OCD sufferers have friends!!!!!

I've always had friends, even at my socially worst, when I was in junior high - and high school - and I guess even in college... Laughing

Don't care if he's an Aspie or not, I mean it appears he's an asexual aspie, but it's a show meant for entertainment, so I think it's best to just enjoy it and not overanalyze it.
Personally, Sheldon is my favorite character because because Jim Parsons does a great job at portraying Sheldon, whatever Sheldon is, and I laugh my ass off at every episode. The entire cast does a great performance in every episode and it makes me laugh. And that's all that really matters to me.

I think his character is a bit exaggerated, but he does represent some AS traits. The shows creators seem to keep it up to the imagination, they haven't come right out and admitted it.

do you guys think that Sheldon has Asperger's syndrome? also, you guys think he might have something else?

I am very sure about this. There have been direct hints in the series.

My parents watch that show. I don't, mainly because I'm lazy. I'll watch some episodes tomorrow.
Every time I catch them watching that show, they remind me of how I resemble Sheldon.

So, even though I don't really identify with him, and he's much more cartoonish than me, my parents seem to think it's true.

Absolutely. I think it goes without saying.

Johnny Galecki gave Jim Parsons a copy of 'Look Me in the Eye,' and once he'd read it, Jim was convinced, beyond a doubt, that Sheldon had AS. The producers say that character wasn't written as having AS, but sometimes an 'accidental aspie' in media comes across better as those who are meant to have it.

I agree that diagnosing him would alter the shows humor in a not so positive way. Let the world continue to think Sheldon is hilarious, and let us continue to connect with him as a fellow Aspie.

Yep. Smile I heard that Sheldon was based on someone one of the writers knew, and that he wasn't written as having Asperger's. If this is true, I think the person he's based on probobly has Asperger's. In all seriousness though, Sheldon has like every AS characteristic. I also think Amy and Leonard's mum probobly have it too. Smile

I had read something that Jim Parsons said about Sheldon and AS.

He said that the character could not have anymore AS traits, and the creators of the show did not intentionally make Sheldon with AS when them made the show. But thats how he turned out/

Parsons also said that the producers were thinking about doing an episode where Sheldon does get diagnosed with AS to explain how he is. But then they pulled the idea because since its a sitcom. The characters take jabs at each other. The producers did not want it to seem like they were making fun of Sheldon for something he has no control over.

Sheldon gets his jabs in too. Sheldon may not know it, but he does.
