| My head and shoulders are specifically hypersensitive to touch, the feeling of clothes, and pain. I cannot stand to brush my hair, it brings me to tears. Any kind of discomfort around my shoulders is like millions of tiny needles stabbing me. However I seemed to deal with my broken foot with no pain meds at all. |

Depends on the pain. For example, I would rate my self a 1/10 on how sensitive my hair is to getting pulled, but more like a 6/10 out of ten for headaches. On average, I would say my pain sensitivity is about a 3/10.
When I was younger, I kind of got in trouble because I went to school with an ear infection and threw up at lunch, I thought I would be OK but I wasn't. They were a bit mad because they assumed that I wouldn't have gone to school if I had an ear infection because it would "hurt too much". At least, that's how I remember it.
Also, once I had SEVERE strep throat and didn't realize until I was unable to swallow. The doctor got kind of mad at me for not noticing sooner, I believe.
I have always wanted to have a lower pain tolerance, probably because people got mad at me when I was younger because of my high pain tolerance. |

I have a high tolerance for pain. It doesn't even really 'feel' painful..
That said, if I touch something and discover it's hot, I will tend to release it quickly. Or if I accidentally cut myself, I will tend to remove the knife rather than continue to cut, etc.
The pain does hurt, but not in a meaningful way, just in a way that I know I should avoid it, and that if I don't, it will continue to hurt more later..
It must feel painful to me somehow.. regardless, if I want, I can just ignore it and it ceases to have any actual meaning.. it never really had any in the first place |

| Very sensitive to pain dealt by local stinging and piercing pain (not sure whether those are the correct words to describe it) + being below average in sensitivity to pressure pain that covers wider area..... |

| High pain tolerance. It takes a significant amount of pressure before the feeling will register as 'pain'. |

My skin is incredibly sensitive to pain. The back of my hands and the tops of me feet are so sensitive when anything pulls at the skin, I scream. My back is also very sensitive, I can't tolerate pats on the back, it feels like a slap. My scalp is also very sensitive even if I brush my hair myself I will cry sometimes. I use to scream bloody murder when my mother held on to me to brush my hair when I was little. Then again she would pull my hair to keep my from running away and hit the back of my hands when I tried to protect my head with my hands.
That said, I have a very high tolerance for internal pain, I don't know if it is a lack of sensitivity or I have grown used to it, I have a chronic illness that causes abdominal pain. When I was diagnosed with it, the Drs told my parents they didn't know how I wasn't doubled over constantly, my illness was so bad.
I bump into stuff a lot, so I bruise, but I'll find a bruise and not know how I got it. The pain wasn't bad enough to register in my memory. |

I'm unusually sensitive to pain.
Which sucks because I always wanted a tattoo and some piercings but I'm too scared of the pain factor. If I'm lucky I might be also to convince someone to knock me out while they do it... _________________ Diagnostic Tools and Resources for Women with AS: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt211004.html |

hypodermic needles make me feel like i'm being skewered alive, i can feel every microscopic irregularity in the needle's surface, they feel like a bunch of little barbs as they go in and out. it burns, it burns! somebody needs to invent a non-needle needle. |

| I have a high tolerence to pain. When something does hurt I feel like I have somekind of control over it, after all it's just electrical messages sent to my brain telling me that it hurts , i enjoy over coming it. Somekind of pain I actually enjoy like getting tattooed. |

probably slightly insensitive, but I can't be anyone else so I'm not sure what "average" is! _________________ Ten's radio show: Next repeated at 7am BST Monday at www.ldok.net

Do you cry like a big girl if you cut your finger or do you ignore it and soldier on? |

Lol. Yeah I mostly found out I had high pain tolerance because I've always had very little reaction to pain which people have pointed out. As a kid falling over and scuffing my knee was just a mild annoyance while other kids would roll around crying like they had broken their leg or something. My tattooist says I can sit for hours and not show any discomfort at all. |

I have always been VERY hypersensitive to pain. There are many medical procedures that are supposed to be painless that are excrutiating for me. I never stop "feeling." For example, if I have to get an IV inserted, I've heard most people say that, once the needle is inserted, the pain goes away. But for me, I feel the needle the entire time. Like with most things made difficult/unpleasant from my AS, I just go through life dealing with my pain hypersensitivity. I don't avoid doctors or medical procedures because of it. It's all I've ever known. _________________ Helinger: Now, what do you see, John?
