Ugandans say Kony film is 'misleading', 'too late'

I posted the Kony video on my FB because I've been following the situation for many years and it was the first video of its kind I had seen become so popular, and none of my own posts about him ever got any attention (not the only situation I post about). I'm certainly not giving Invisible Children any money, but I did get a sense of "White Man's Burden" from the video I did not like.

I already knew about this Kony guy, and the bad stuff he's been doing to the people of Uganda, for some time now. I'm surprised people around the country are acting like this is something brand new.

Whether we agree whole, partially, or disagree totally on the motives of Invisible Children, this video along with the poster image campaign is a masterpiece advertisement campaign. Before this campaign came out, I am willing to bet that 99.9% of the people in this nation has never heard of Joseph Kony. Millions now know who he is, and if the papering phase of the campaign works, Joseph Kony will become a household name.

Even though I believe that the resulting actions of Kony 2012 will result in many deaths, the advertising campaign has worked. This video is the most viral video in history. People who work in or teach advertising and public relations should watch and study the images, website, and video very carefully. The advertising principles at play are keeping it at an elementary school level and evoking strong emotions. These are the things that get people watching and engaged. These tactics are what elected Barack Obama. I will watch this over and over to learn everything I can about marketing.

He may be a nutjob, but he is damned sure a master at marketing.

If anyone didn't watch 10 o'clock live last night then you can watch a short clip of the brilliant Charlie Brooker explain how messed up the invisible children group really are here on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpuB11d0Gog

In 2009 large reserves of oil were discovered in Uganda. IIRC Kony2012 video seemed to focus on Uganda, despite the LRA having crossed the border 6 years ago. Astroturf?

note that im not implying that the people running invisiblechildren are knowingly members in the astroturf branch of a conspiracy, its more likely to be like a smuggling operation, where ideally the person that carrys the contrabnd through customs shouldnt know that they have it, iyswim. The neo-liberals search through the various grass-roots movements, find the one that best suits there agenda and gives tham a big push.

Quote:
....Armed interventions in Uganda to find and kill Joseph Kony have been tried repeatedly over the decades with no success. Each push scatters the LRA to civilian areas with terrible costs to those who live in those areas. For example, Operation Lightning Thunder, which was a joint operation with the involvement of the US, resulted in the abduction of 700 people and the deaths of 1, 000 civilians.

One of their partners and donators is Chase Community Giving who awarded them $1million as a prize for winning a contest that was mired in controversy and accusations of fraud. This organisation is part of JP Morgan Chase Foundation who are also listed as one of Invisible Children’s network of supporters. This organisation is also owner of Chase Military, an organisation that offers loans, mortgages and insurance to soldiers that are to be deployed abroad. JP Morgan have also used foreign military interventions in the past to secure investment opportunities such as in Afghanistan with the full support of the US Government. Further ties with Uganda include their recent investment in Ugandan agribusiness and their ties as broker and adviser to Heritage Oil, whose operations are expanding into the border of Uganda and the Congo where the LRA are currently based. You’d be forgiven for thinking that, when situating these operations with their support of Invisible Children in the past year, JP Morgan are very interested in Uganda’s assets and are looking for means to foster business-friendly awareness of Uganda’s problems for their own benefit. Military intervention would do nothing but bolster JP Morgan’s profitmaking opportunities in the region...

I can't believe some of you fell for this. My BS meter was reading off the charts when I saw this slick video. Sure enough, the US government has been funding NGOs which are trying to sway people through social media. Look no further than Chris Sarette, who is "Vice President of Business Operations" and affiliated with Movements.org nd regular attendee of "Alliance of Youth Movements" summits which created Movements.org and funded by the US state dept.

http://www.movements.org/pages/2010-summit-in-london

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?ti ... _Attendees

What is the "Alliance of Youth Movements"? It's a gathering of notable war mongers Hillary Clinton, Condoleeza Rice, and Jared Cohen who tell their minions what pro-democracy (in the line of NED-style "democracy") talking points to impress on the gullible facebook public.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alliance_o ... _Movements
http://blogs.state.gov/index.php/archiv ... aym_summit

So what is this *really* about? Well, hopefully I don't have to point out that is the ICC were in any way, shape, or form what they claim to be, the most wanted 1, 2, and 3 would be Bush, Obama, and Kissinger respectively. No, this is just another arm of the global elite's firm grip on world trade and resources. What resources? Central African OIL!

But, you say, this is only about "advisors"! Well, so was f*****g VIETNAM in the beginning!

A few advisors here and there, a little stoking of the fires, and soon we have chaos brewing near those succulent oil fields in southern Sudan. Well, now it becomes a NATIONAL SECURITY issue and the whole Kony BS becomes forgotten.

Open your eyes you facebook sheep

Some more perspective on this Kony BS.

Drone attacks by BushBama have killed over 168 children (all of them terrorists, I'm sure):
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... paign.html

"More than 250,000 children are reported dying every year of malnutrition alone in Afghanistan."
http://www.rawa.org/child-5.htm

Let's not forget Iraq:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualties_of_the_Iraq_War

Kony is a SAINT compared to BushBama! I'd rather give Kony a toast than acknowledge Obama as a member of my species. I dare anyone here to say something about Kony which in any way, shape, or form approaches the degree of misery BushBama has inflicted on children.

Give me a break. Kony 2012 is pure facepalm.

I'm at the point where I don't want the USA going into any more wars. We have a habit of letting people that are far wores then the last person come into power.

I will put it this way is it bad in Syria? Yes but what reason is there for the UN, NATO, or US to go there? Do we know who we are helping? I look back and start to see that we should never have gone into Iraq or Afghanistan. Also if we are going to help people we need to know.

A) Who it is we are helping? and Why?
B) What is the game plan?
C) How many people are we sending over?
D) What will we do after the fact?
