Every since I was a little boy I don't know why I have had the need to go through peoples stuff, not as in a house, more like their back pack, a purse or maybe a piece of furniture. Even today I still ask my mother's friends if I can go through their purses, I don't know why but it entertains me, I guess I like the "secrets", whenever my mother's friends let me go through their purses I get disappointed if they just have a bunch of things dumped inside, I like it when things are organised or say things about the person like the make-up or photos of relatives so I can get to know them, I guess that is much faster that the labyrinth of social nonsense, I have never took anything from them, I am not a kleptomaniac. I also like things that are inside of things and even more things, inside of things, inside of things; I guess I appreciate the complexity that may represent depth of character "what ever that may be" and "what ever that might mean".
This is also expressed with how I like things, I like to feel cosy surrounded by things that encapsulate other things, secret complex things. Needless to say I love books, always have, I like to read about everything, to know more. I guess that relates to how I like to go through people's organised meaningful things because then I can remember what that told me about them and maybe later on let them know I remembered or giving them a meaningful gift. I think also that letting them know I remember is the only way I know how to let people know I don't not care.
This are just guesses I mean I don't really know why I always have and still go through peoples stuff. It is so weird

Please consider the privacy of the people whose stuff you're going through. I have SERIOUS issues about my things and people touching them. It sets me off, makes me paranoid, and has sent me to the hospital with episodes brought on by people messing with my stuff. I basically disowned my father because he wouldn't respect my boundaries.

I think I know what you mean. I've house-sat a few times, and find it fascinating. I mean, I may have been in the house with the person there, but then the focus is on the person, not the environment. Feels like I get to know the person better by observing the things they surround themselves with than by observing the people themselves. Plus, I figure if someone asks you to stay in their house for a week, they must expect that their stuff is going to at least get looked at.

No worries though, I might take a peek in your cupboards or your medicine cabinet, but I'll leave your underwear drawer alone.
