A guy I know, somewhat of a friend of mine (he was a friend in childhood and we met a Subway sandwich place over Thanksgiving time late last year) moved to South America after graduating from a college. Why? For the girls. That seems crazy to me.

What do you think?

My dad always said that Brazil had the most beautiful women he'd ever seen. And he was a world traveler.

Was your friend implying something about the relative friendliness of the South American women, or was he just moved by their relative beauty?

P.S. Did he speak any Spanish or Portuguese before he moved there?

If he doesn't mind possibly getting shot at, seems like a winning idea to me. Especially if he's got money saved up from here, housing is cheap there. In my experience anyway, I find foreign girls just much easier to communicate with compared to American girls. South America wouldn't be my choice, I'd probably do Asia or Eastern Europe first. I'm really tempted to go Poland, as it's where my last name and part of my ancestry hails, and pretty much every FOB Polish girl I've met here (as a lot do come to my state and region) has for the most part been great looking and pretty nice.

I'd say his strategy is good, rather than trying to change your culture that's around, just move to one that suits you more. South America isn't my first choice, but props to him.

I think it was the friendliness the South American women, and that they might seem interested in the so-called fast paced "American" (I tend to avoid the word "American" to describe the U.S. since there are many more in the Americas that I think could be called Americans) that he supposedly was.

He had mediocre Spanish before leaving. I don't think he lived in Brazil. He did live in Chile for a while... one other country, too, but I forget which one.

He was and is not wealthy. He is not the sharpest, most energetic guy.

This whole thing seems a bit racist to me. He now lives back in the United States, in Washington, D.C.

If he was wanting to have a long term serious relationship he could of done the mail-order bride thing instead of going out on a whim by moving hoping he could meet someone there

Brazil has some of the highest rates of plastic surgery, and in general i think there is a lot of emphasis on being "done", with the makeup and hair and tanning and waxing. culturally, i think that women put in a lot of work down there in order to maintain their looks in a certain way.

Oh, I agree, I've read some really hair-raising accounts, especially of plastic surgery gone wrong (and I had a luscious booty this whole time, who knew? Wink ). There are European cultures that prize looking "finished" all the time, too. But I think it's more "polished" and "accessorized", not "tropical and exotic"...

My dad traveled there (Brazil) in the 1960's. I wonder if the culture was the same back then (I imagine the incidence of plastic surgery was less at least).

Brazil has beautiful women and beaches but crime is extremely high. I would rather go to Japan because crime is lower and there are beuatiful girls hehe or Taiwan.

Many girls in South America like going out with foreign people. Bonus points if he looks foreign (i.e. blond hair, light eyes). Problem is, your friend might get a goldigger if not careful.

And about crime, it's not that bad. As long as you don't show any valuables and stay away from the bad parts of the city, nothing should happen.
