Since pure communism doesn't exist under any of the major social or political systems of the world, I would have to disagree on the grounds that you cannot corroborate that statement with an actual working model. |

It depends what is meant by that.
There seems to be a different conception of marriage. Now, it is built around the couple, with or without children. Basically, it is like a couple contract. Earlier, it was about families -- both building a new nuclear family and creating an alliance between two lineages. Divorce would have made absolutely no sense with the "traditionnal" meaning of marriage, whereas it does if it is a "love contract" like today.
Thence, I think the idea of marriage risks to fade. After all, what is the real difference between a married couple and an unmarried couple? I think it is unnecessary, and unnecessary and costly things tend to disappear in the long run. However, it may take time. Still, it may survive because people like the "relationship upgrade", which is something I don't understand, or simply for the tax cuts, which I hope will disappear in their current form and just apply to all couples and parents instead of those with silly contracts. As more and more people will not get married, yet have children, I think it will lose its reason to exist.
I speak for Quebec mostly, but I think it applies elsewhere. My parents married after I was born, my uncle did with two daughters in kindergarten, my other uncle has elementary school children and is not married, so I'm pretty confident when I say it is not a necessity anymore, but I don't know how things are elsewhere.

Since communism is stricly atheistic, I would imagine that communism exists only where it doesn't exist. |

| If we live in a society that does not care about children then marriage is an upgrade because the parents provide for the children. But once society cares about children marriage becomes obsolete. |

| IMO, hell no. I'm not a conservative but I think marriage, straight or gay, is a beautiful thing and there's probably not a stronger social bond in the world. Even parent-child, tends to decrease over time, but a strong marriage really is forever. |
