It can actually be a greater burden on an enemy nation to wound, cripple and maim their soldiers. On the battlefield, they are then obligated to care for their wounded, slowing them down. At home, their economy is burdened by supporting tons of crippled veterans.

Who says anyone will care for the wounded? That is an assumption. One thing for sure, dead enemy cannot fire back and will not live to fight another day.

If you don't have enough voluntary soldiers. Don't go to war.
If a country actually declares war against your country, and actually invades (something that hasn't happened to US since WW2). Then it makes sense to draft. Else you should really just stop being a warlord if not even your own people like the idea of war that much.

That's true, it is the standard practice of all conventional armed forces, especially the US, to just leave their wounded like some kind of medieval battle

having compulsory military service would be a gross infringement on our civil rights. they have attempted to introduce it here several times & managed to get it through at one point but it has been resisted each time by the majority. even if it werent the majority wanting it i dont think the minority should have to go if they dont want to. i'm personally opposed to it because it would mean i become a tool of the state, forced to kill or facilitate the killing, invasion & occupation of the land of other people who are just like me in imperialist wars that benifit none but the ruling class. & the people who are enlisted will always be working class- the rich always get the workers to fight their battles. the army is the biggest waste of money ever & its internal culture is not healthy. we dont need to be spending 30 billion a year on it.
im thinking of ways to get out of it if it is ever introduced again and includes women. so far i have nothing. being a communist is no longer grounds for expulsion, im not under weight any more, being queer ceased to be a problem years ago and they said i would have to see the shrink about PDDs(they didnt know what it was). they are making it hard for me. i actually went and asked at orientation week at uni(ADFA, to my shame, is on my campus.) & they got all excited because they thought that by asking about how i could get out of military service it somehow meant i wanted to join... |

I don't see how not wanting to be in the military makes one a coward, its not a good choice for me...now if someone actually does invade I'll certainly defend myself, should the situation arise but I still would not be not joining the military though, I doubt they'd have me anyways. As if being able to kill people and destroy things is something people should strive for...I mean I have friends who want to be in the military and a friend who was in the military so I have nothing against people who make that choice other then I more or less disagree. But yeah its not something I could do or really want to. I hope to never have to kill anyone I don't see anything wrong with that.
