I usually sleep 8+ hours well last night I barely got 6 and I can tell a difference. I'm still tired and in tears. I'm very meltdown prone when I haven't had a good nights sleep. I was wondering if anyone else is more emotional if they don't get there usual sleeping hours. Sure those who normally work at night then sleep during the day or can sleep 4 hrs. as a "normal routine" thing is cool but for me less than 8+ hours and I'm an emotional wreck the next day! |

| The more deprived of sleep I get, the easier I fall apart. It varies by what kind of deprivation it is, though. If I sleep a little, I get irate easier. If I go 24+ hours without sleep, I get paranoid, and depressed easier. The odd part for me is, the longer I stay awake, I end up growing a fear of falling asleep. It's annoying. |

| I read somewhere that apparently the hormones that cause stress are more abundant if you get less sleep. |

| I badly need my 9-10 hours of sleep. When my schedule is out of whack, I sometimes stay up for 20 or more hours in a row, and sleep for up to 16 hours. |

If you think that you can adjust to less sleep...you can't. Your mind will think it can but your body can not.
And too much sleep isn't good either. Some people need a little more, some need a little less, but you shouldn't need more than 10 hours unless your catching up on sleep. _________________ www.wrongplanet.net |

Those ideal charts make me SICK.
I never have the same amount of sleep each day, I often get 10-8-1-0 or anything in between.
Like rolling a dice..
People then think they are qualified to diagnose me because they read that "people your age need x-y hours a day!"
Bullcrap, that's the average. And it does not include abnormals. |

I can't function properly, no. I never actually have a so called "normal" nights sleep, because I wake up several times in the night even on a good one, but if I can get back to sleep relatively quickly I consider that good.

Yes the same here, lately I have not been able to get enough sleep and I keep feeling like I'm on the egde of crumbling. I keep getting in a state (some sort of meltdown I think) when I actually go to bed now, just with the thought that I might not get enough sleep which is exhausting me even more, and so the cycle continues. |

no, I can't.
I have a very hard time sleeping solidly. I hear 'everything' in the house and it wakes me up. Often have bad dreams, those wake me up too. Last night was not good and today I'll have a hard time thinking straight because of it. Oddly enough I can still paint, but not for long sessions. I'll end up taking a nap later today. |

| I've had chronic insomnia on and off throughout my life due to various health issues and it definitely affects my day-to-day functioning and overall wellbeing. I can't even imagine being able to regularly sleep 8-10 hours a night like some people on this thread say they do. I'm lucky to get six, at best. |

I functioned on little sleep yesterday, and two days last week, and it totally sucks. If I don't get enough sleep, it's like my brain can't even have positive emotions. Even when something good happens during that sleep-deprived day. That's hell on earth: going about with total inability to be happy, even in normally-happy circumstances. It's like if my boss told me I'm getting a pay increase, I'd be like, "That's good. That's really good." And I'd be thinking, "I can't feel this now, but tomorrow after I get some sleep, it will make me happy." (Got 12 hours last night, to catch up from the 5 the night before.) _________________ Christianity is different than Judaism only in people's minds -- not in the Bible. |

| Judging from the fact I'm now on wrongplanet at 4am, I think I can say that I have a abnormal sleep schedule. I actually go to bed quite early, about 10pm, but I hardly ever sleep for more than 2 hours without waking up. I'd estimate at 3-4 days a week I get up too early (3am today) because I hate sleeping, I hate the idea I could be doing something instead of lying around drooling onto my pillow... |

No I really need at least 6 hours and prefer at least 7 hours. Sometimes I am unable to fall asleep easily if worried or if drank tea or coffee too close to bedtime. Usually I may function ok on little sleep and by the afternoon I am close to crashing and want to take a nap. _________________ "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure." |
