I was about to say the same thing.
I listen to music while browsing the web. So when im on WP, I get adverts playing on top of my music. _________________
“Sometimes when you innovate, you make mistakes. It is best to admit them quickly, and get on with improving your other innovations.” -Steve Jobs.
|

They're getting on my nerves aswell. I've found a little ''mute'' button on the ad but it doesn't do anything.
It's annoying because sometimes I have my volume on my laptop up on it's loudest (when I've been listening to music or something), and then when I go on WP and a music ad comes up, it blares on loud and I wonder what the hell it is for a few seconds.
It never used to do this until about 2 weeks ago. Looks like there is a way to get rid of it but it looks too complicated and whatever instructions I follow on the web, it never seems to work with me. _________________ Real gender: Female

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!!
This is awful!!
Bloody hell, another one has just started. No, I don't need stain remover, and I'll never buy sodding Gaviscon again, after this hellish experience.
When did this start? I've used the mute on my laptop to stop it. Phew!
I don't even see the ads, they just start blaring out at me.
Please, please, make them stop! |

| It was acceptable when users had to click on the videos to play them. Popping up fullscreen on a mobile device (for which I'm paying data rates) is infuriating!! Please stop with the autoplaying adverts!!!!! |

Big mistake to host these ads. Ads that cut in with noises are beyond the pale.
I remember Alex pointing out earlier in the year that sites don't pay for themselves, and blocking ads removes revenue. And that seemed reasonable to me.
But I don't think making the ads 100x worse than they need to be is going to help anything.
I'm putting WP back on my block list.
Intrusive ads are what impel people to use adblockers and spoil the game for sites that don't host such horrible ads. _________________ Not currently a moderator |

As many users of this site have issues with sensory sensitivities and most of us prefer predictable situations this is just completely unacceptable. I don't want to jump out of my skin every time I load a page because of loud and unexpected music (and why is the default volume set to max). I don't welcome having to scroll right down the page to find and silence the ad. I don't like using a site that now leaves me anxious and on edge waiting for the noise torture to begin.
The main culprit appears to be IDG News Service.
Please fix it or you will very quickly start loosing members. |

Well it's not as bad as YouTube - there's audio ads everywhere there and one's just given me a virus!
(or it was a very interesting coincidence, in any case)
I hope audio ads aren't the way the internet is going. _________________ Ten's radio show: Next repeated at 1am BST Saturday at www.ldok.net

| Anyone have something for Opera to block ads. Web browser Opera. I have decided to fight with ads that if you even get close to the perfect spot they blow up and spread across the whole entire darn half page because it wants to. |

Sudden noises scare the living crap out of me, which is why I started using Adblock Plus in the first place, that and virus prevention.
I actually destroyed 5 phones because of this hatred of sudden noises.
And if I ever get a cell phone, it will definately have music that I don't find frightening if heard unexpectedly.
Advertisements are a good idea on paper, as well as TV, but not on computers. 70% of ads have viruses. _________________ It's best for me to say...
