If smoking got banned then they would try to ban dip and chewing tobacco that would suck for me big time.

and most of all I would ban smoking in all public places, outdoors or indoors. If you want to smoke in your house, apartment, yard, or balcony then fine, but I should not be obliged to inhale carcinogens when I'm waiting at the bus stop.

I don't see a problem with public smoking as long as there are designated smoking areas. secondhand smoke is really only 1/1000 anyway. The smell is the only real issue in my mind.

The smell is quite enough reason for me to wish that it was banned in public outdoor spaces. Not necessarily enough to justify it, but enough for me to wish.

I think both tobacco smoking and pot smoking should be legal on private property.
And no, I don't smoke pot. I just support the right of people to do so.
Actually, I don't smoke cigarettes, either. Laughing

Only because you guys distribute the costs. If the costs were borne by those who behave foolishly they would perish and the rest of us would be better off for it.

As I said, no one wants to get rid of universal healthcare in Canada and Europe. Ergo it makes sense for us to discourage smoking. You don't have to agree with the underlying premises, but you must admit that there is some logic to the position. I dislike many (most) of the premises that you base your statements on, but for the most part I will admit that your conclusions are logically sound given your values.

Suppose we ban smoking in public spaces because you don't like the smell... Well, then we'd also have to ban cheap perfumes and legally require people to brush their teeth... And for that matter, we might as well ban ugly people from all public places, since you don't like to look at them...

Now, suppose we're banning it because of 2nd hand exposure... That makes more sense, right?... Ok, but then we also need to ban cellphones, smoke detectors, security scanners, and any other sources of potentially cancer-causing radiation... And for that matter, we need to ban the SUN itself, since it is FAR more likely to cause cancer than 2nd hand smoke...

I wouldn't go as far as outlawing smoking entirely.

I just think they should only be allowed to smoke on property that they actually own.

Or where the owner gives them permission to smoke.

No, but I believe that we should continue to torture them legislatively. Maybe make them smoke standing on one leg? Once upon a time smokers were everywhere and it wasnt pleasant. If they are unhappy now, I couldnt care less.

No. It's deadly and annoying though, but it shouldn't be considered a crime.
I didn't say it should be a crime.

But smoking in public areas should be an offense. With penalty. Just like public pooping and littering. Like releasing toxics on people? well, be my guest and do community service for a weekend.

We ban pooping in public places because we don't like the smell and it causes disease. Just like smoking.

BTW, Cell phones don't cause cancer. No, not at all. 0%. It was a fraud to sell cell phone covers.

People in the Victorian era didn't find anything wrong with pooping in public areas either.
