I'm a 26 year old mum of three beautiful, talented and clever children.
My eldest, KC, turned 5 in January this year and started big school at the beginning of February. She's been doing really well, at least when I ask her how her day at school was she always says 'fun'.
So that's a good thing.
She was diagnosed for ASD in November 2010 and since then she's made some incredible progress. She is on the 'mild' part of the spectrum. I always get confused with what is high and what is low functioning autism so I just say she's got it mild. She can speak whereas a lot of other asd kiddies I know can barely say a word or two. Her speech is basically on par with her 3 year old brother's. Only recently have we been able to have conversations with her.
Our latest challenge is explaining God to her. I'm a reborn Christian as of the beginning of 2012, so my faith and my children's faiths have taken high priority.
I thought this forum was for parents who have children with autism, I remember signing up to one forum like that when KC was just diagnosed and all their lingo was just too daunting for me so I never showed face there again.
But this forum is so soooo much better.
I went on a three month course to better understand autism and rule #1 : get into their world before you try bring them into yours.
Thank you thank you thank you for making this forum. Look forward to seeing you guys around |

Welcome to Wrong Planet!
As for functioning levels, low functioning basically means they can't seem to do as much socially than the average Neurotypical person.
Not that they matter.
Anyways, don't change your daughter into something she's not, help her blossom the way she is.
