So there's a reason after all why car marketeers put babes next to cars.....

In the "If you could date a WP member, who would it be?" there were at least 3 women mentioning some male user's fancy car and wanting to date him in the process, t here were more in other threads.

So who of you would date a guy because of his fancy car?

I was joking about Alex's car. I had commented on his pic of it to get ready to be named in that thread a lot now.

Actually, back when I was a teenager and in my early 20's, cars were a big deal. What your boyfriend drove, gave you status. It's crazy, but that's how it was back in teenageland. I had a pro stock mustang and thats why several guys dated me, I know that, but they were cute and so that upped my status so I went out with them. Same as the guys with the fancy cars do when hot women want to date them for their cars.

At my age now, I don't understand it. But, that's how it was back then. It doesn't seem to be that way now, with my kids and their friends, but it was really big in the late 70s and early 80s. A guy with a black Trans Am with T tops and a gold bird on the hood could get any girl he wanted. Even if he was 5 feet tall, weighed 600lbs, wore glasses two inches thick and had leprosy.

Oh come on!!!!! At least be consistent, you didn't sound joking there, At all!!

You're exactly like smudge, she made it very clear that she wants a rich husband, and said it several times before in all seriousness, yet when i trolled her a bit about it she was like "i wasn't serious, i was joking, i dated poor guys before bla bla bla....".

Hey, it's ok if you have such preference, but don't deny it just because i confronted it or said that i don't like that in you, i'll respect this far more, it 's too late to make me believe you now.

LOL! Of course I didn't sound like I was joing. I wanted it to sound serious. It wouldn't have been funny if it didn't sound serious. I was parodying folks who do care about things like that.

I don't really care if you believe me or not. It doesn't matter to me. When I met my husband (in 1985) he drove a 1974 Chevrolet Malibu. Now, if I was all about cars, I wouldn't have given him the time of day. Now we have a Mazda minivan. Wow us!

Ah the old it's a joke trick, It's like one of us saying "I like girls with big boobies, I'm shallow", only to be questioned on it and turn around to say "No, wait, boobs don't matter, I only care about their poetry recital skills".

I don't care about his car. I care that he can drive well and knows how to change oil, tyres and basic crap like that which in my mind fall into the category of basic life skills.

I love my car and my motorbikes, they're my babies. In my opinion, a ferrari won't top my car, because at least I worked on it and did all the custom work myself. I also built both my bikes from scratch. It's a personal thing for me and money will never make up for that.

I like MXH as a person, not because he has a racing car avatar. That as just an excuse on which to defend him at the time, and I was just joking.

What I find interesting is when you cannot distinguish between someone who makes a joke once, and someone who is obviously concerned with money and status. They are two completely separate things.

I find it rather material and shallow when they flaunt their cars actually. It's as if that's all they are, a nice car.

I've never understood the whole "car" thing. To me, I'm embarrassed when a guy apologizes for his car or if he tries to work it into conversation as though it's something I should notice and care about. I myself drive the lowest status car possible, I don't believe in wasting money on stupid sh**. Now, if a guy had built or restored a car, I could *really* get into that because that's about his passion (and because he could teach me about it). But if he just drives up in a fancy car and derives some sort of self-worth from it, I'm skeptical that we'll ultimately be compatible, and I'm kinda sad for him, too.

Seeing as I don't drive I wouldn't automatically expect him to, to be honest. However I've never seen the appeal of a fancy car, the type of car a guy had would have no bearing on me liking him or not. Well unless it was a hearse or something then I might be worried. Razz

I'm more in agreement with MV and Kjas. It's more appealing how much he takes care of his vehicle.

Shoutout to Kjas that's so cool you built bikes. I'm thinking of a cafe project for my daughter and me.

I can recall at least two guys I've had a date with who actually wanted to show off their shiny Porches during the night out. To be honest, it was much more of a turn off for me than anything else. I'd rather have somebody confident enough about their personality and wits to not have the need to accentuate their material assets.

Furthermore, MXH can surely confirm my lack of interest in cars in general. My knowledge reaches as far as there are blue ones and red ones etc.

As the saying goes, the flashier the car, the more they are lacking in the pants department.

So no...a car doesn't tell you what he has in store.

And to be "that guy", I have a cute little Pixo that has a License Plate that ironically spells a woman's region (THIS IS A COINCIDENCE I SWEAR!).

I get many jokes from that plate. Embarassed
