Sorry, but this is not unreasonable. Any person under arrest, for any reason, is a potential safety risk to officers, employees, other inmates and themselves. Nobody gets a kick out of seeing your drunk self naked, but I'm not relaxing until I know you're unarmed.

For any reason whatsoever? Are you kidding me? Last I checked, they could only strip-search you (and this is a very invasive type of search) if they believed you had contraband on your person that could not be found with a simple pat down. That is how it should be. Also, probably a little Off-Topic, but the rule is that they can only have members of the same gender conduct such a search. This disgusts me.

Strip searches and cavity searches are invasive, and it has long been a principal--at least in Canadian law--that such action can only be taken where an officer has reasonable grounds to believe that the search is necessary, and where safeguards exist to ensure that it is properly carried out.
"Reasonable grounds to believe," is a pretty low bar, which provides police with a broad level of discretion. To my mind, there is no need to go beyond that standard.

It's as if the court is deliberately trying to create some sort of dystopic society whrere people are dehumanized as a matter of course. Maybe next security guards will be allowed strip search people at the entry to where they work every day, "for the safety of the public."
I suspect that it's not actually deliberate, but rather a function of how human perception and self-perception (ego) works. (It's hard to see what's wrong with things that you can't imagine yourself being subjected to.)
On a different note, this reminds me of a doctor that I heard about once. He apparently loved doing unnecessary rectal exams, to the point that he was eventually not allowed to interact with patents. Maybe this supreme court desicion will open up a new career opportunity for him. |

I've been strip- and cavity-searched at the Dutch-German border back in the day, and it was a lot less fun than one might expect. In fact, it was quite horrifying, and made worse by the fact that I was pretty stoned at the time. But other than having a moderate amount of THC in my bloodstream, I had not done anything to deserve this humiliating treatment. I didn't try to smuggle drugs or anything, I merely looked suspicious (and couldn't stop laughing about the fact that the drug detection cur was a small poodle).
I wouldn't wish this kind of treatment on anyone but the worst criminals, and only after they've been found guilty by a court of law. Citizens without a criminal record should never be treated like this and should have the inalienable right to be treated with dignity in all aspects of life. (The first article of the German constitution actually reads "human dignity is inviolable". Too bad that it's just words on paper). |

I've never been cavity searched and would be very traumatized and feel like I was raped if it happened. I do not do penetration and find it to be painful.
I suppose I've been "strip searched" twice a long time ago but it wasn't a full on buck naked someone staring at my parts strip search. When I went into the reform school they made you undress in front of them when you first got there but they gave you a towel to hide behind during. The one time I was in jail for a day they kind of watched when I changed but let me turn my back to them and once I had the jail shirt on it was long enough to cover my stuff when I changed my pants. |

@LunaticOnTheGrass, You should specify which Government you are talking about. There are more than one on this planet.
Cops will make up a reason to arrest you, or simple make a mistake. And you end up being strip searched for no reason at all. Without any compensation claims possible.
No wonder people see cops as enemies.
@hanyo, What's reform school?, and how did you end up in jail?
