I am amused at the nice little standard of "real" versus "fake" rap.
Who decides what's real and what's fake? When you strip rap down (ANY rap) it's mostly just guys reading a poem they wrote. _________________ A shot gun blast into the face of deceit

I get what you mean though. But there's a big differance between mainstream and underground, underground is more mature whereas mainstream guys never grow up.

Sort of. At the base of it, it's just a dude reading his poem. At that level, the difference between Necro and Eminem is a different voice reading the poem. _________________ A shot gun blast into the face of deceit

Well it's the topic of the song that determines whether I like it or not. And there's only one topic that I don't like, which is "braggadocio" Half the songs on Eminem's albums to date are this topic. Whereas the rap artists I listen to nowadays keep bragging to a minimum, or only use it when they freestyle, which is fine to me. _________________ Art is self expression, therefore everyone is an artist. I'm not an expert by far, but I gotta say I like Drake and I can tolerate T.I. Also, I've always had a soft spot for Nelly, who is still putting out music on the charts after ten years. _________________ clarity of thought before rashness of action

Indie Rap and Backpacker Rap for me. I like Strange Famous Records and Rhymesayer's Entertainment. I can't stand the mainstream stuff as half the songs on their albums are braggerdocio style. _________________ Art is self expression, therefore everyone is an artist. I'm not into rap at all. But any category that contains the likes of Nicki Minaj should lose.
The other category - heard of them, not really listened to them, but heard some good things about them.

I wouldn't base my opinions on whatever's on the radio; although the best musicians are supposed to be the most famous ones, at this present time, that rule is not implied. Just don't judge until you've heard as much of the genre as you can. The most talented artists are the ones that barely get played on the radio, like mine. Rap is incredible though, it has a vast array of epic traits that don't matter on the radio, storytelling is my favourite:

I tried looking up the lyrics for the first song but had no luck, I couldn't hear them so well; it's a good beat, I think it's braggerdocio though, with metaphors and the like for burning oponents. I couldn't tell what the song was about other than that. The beat reminds me of some gospel hip hop style rap, a bit underground.
I'd say the second one was old-style hip hop, not as underground but still not mainstream. The lyrics are portraying his rise from the gutter, he mentions hustling which means he's got ways of making money but he mentions signng record deal so that means he's not being selfish with these oppertunities. The chorus is braggerdocio though. He mentions in the second verse woman and having crowds of people show up at gigs. His hook at the end is telling his opinions on rap and that he shouldnt get hated for it 'cos it is what it is, an opinion.
