| The only song I can think of that I liked for its lyrics was fireflies by owl city. Other then that I only like songs for the way they sound. I can listen to songs in any langue and still like them even though I dont know what the song is about because its just the beat and the sound that I like. I also listen to the more popular songs because they have alot of that fast moving kind of sound, I always hate the lyrics to them. So I can pretty much listen to any thing at all that has a sound that interests me. Why do you like the kinds of music you do? |

| I listen to almost only foreign language music but I am not at all fluent in the language and only pick up small phrases and individual words, and I think I like the sound of the vocals more than the music. I have many albums with soft female vocals. |

| EDM, since there are no vocals so it's less overwhelming to talk and think. Really I just enjoy it all around, right now Electro-house = favorite. |

| I like to listen to dance music, especially trance because it brings out my emotions. It also energizes me and helps get me through the day. |

I've been into lots of music and artists, and nothing since seeing Echo & The Bunnymen can give me the same feeling they did. I think that if I didn't appreciate them so much, I would have been more impressed by any of the artists I've seen since, who unfortunately, didn't give me that feeling (Peter Hook and the Light, Suede - who were a huge disappointment, but I'll always hold on to them for the nostalgia factor).
Imagine seeing a band from another country you don't really know, and going to see them on the strength that they've influenced some of the bands and artists you like. And you're depressed, and you've been waiting before the set for a very long time, and you're holding on to your place at the bar throughout the entire gig, and somehow the bartender didn't let you pay for your drink, and your bladder is full during Nothing Lasts Forever, and still - from the moment the singer with the sunglasses and army surplus coat walked on stage, to the moment I waited to the end and walked with my newly bought CD to the toilet hurriedly - and bruised the case when I had to answer the phone - the band just played one bitchin' song after the other, and left you with the feeling that it's the best performance that you've ever seen, and that it's been 'Your band' all your life. You need to be there to really understand the cognitive dissonance between the cold/cool indifference of Ian McCulloch's stage personae - who drinks and smokes onstage constantly, and the way that when he decides to communicate with the crowd, and feels warm and heartfelt and genuine, and can make a stranger in the audience who's just been lurking far behind the crowd melt so easily. I think one of the other things that made the night so good is that he'd seemed to truly enjoy himself - it's definitely been a better set than the others I've heard from the same time period, and from what I've heard from fans who'd been to weaker EATB gigs as well. We were extremely lucky. |

I listen to music for the way it sounds, too. I like certain melodies. I like listening for the guitar and bass. I also like fast beat songs for exercising.

I think you couldn't ever describe a person in full based on the music they listen to. My library is pretty varied, but I tend to go listen to more deviant kind of music (Boxcutter, Tycho, Nin, some metal like Isis). there hasn't been too much on the radio that's held my attention lol.
I guess it's a just cause thing. words only cheapen the reason why as there aren't any to reason it. |

I listen to progressive rock metal, alternative rock/metal, grunge, some punk rock and heavy metal.
I love how real/intelligent the lyrics are and how they can be done either aggressively or melodically and the effect completely changes. I also love the technicality with a solid rhythm section to keep it together. I epecially love the use of multiple vocal styles and how the styles range the entire emotional spectrum.

I like 80s chart pop of the kind that spun out bands that began as New Wave/New Romantic bands (Culture Club, Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran), because the instrumental compositions of these bands have this kind of bombastic feel to them... The use ofsynth, the use of drums, it's all very much in your face. And why do I like that? Am I not a mild-mannered, shy, introverted Aspie? Hahaha, of course, I am! But perhaps, through listening to songs like 'Gold' or 'The Reflex', I can imagine myself in the position of the singer, and be a bit more outgoing, extraverted. In the windowsill looking into the big bad world, ready to leap upon it and unleash myself. That is what the up-tempo songs of that genre express to me: energy, self-confidence, a positive expression of ones emotions in line with the old Romanticism of the 19th century. Breathe in that air, and breathe it out again, because you're alive. Grow a mullet and smear product all up in it, wear shoulder-padded, garishly-coloured, short-sleeved Don Johnson shirts on torn jeans.
I also listen to urban contemporary music a lot, but from the 1996-2003 era. Think early Usher, Ginuwine, Aaliyah, Destiny's Child. Why do I listen to that? Mainly because the vocals had adopted something of a more consistent, smooth singing style that was breaking away from the overuse of melisma in the 5 years prior to that (Boyz 2 Men, I'm looking at you). Sure, it wasn't the old days of Motown with Four Tops and Temptations, but it was doing its own thing. And it was experimenting. Ginuwine's Bachelor album may not be your cup of tea, but it was bringing on a whole new sound which Timbaland produced. LA Reid and Babyface were doing their own thing in the meantime. Destiny's Child was constantly playing around with their sound and vocal techniques, marking a complete break with previous girl groups like SWV and Brownstone. Honestly, in my opinion, back in those days, it was as if black popular music (emphasis on 'popular') was innovative again, after having grown stale in the eighties and leaving innovation to underground hiphop and contemporary jazz and blues.
So yeah that's why I listen to 80s pop and 90s RnB. I hope everyone will now understand it better next time I post another Kajagoogoo or Dru Hill song.

i like classical because it makes you take a deeper look at musics meaning.it is not the instant gratification of radio music it makes you come to the music.helping you to understand the musics meaning better.it does not always offer the instant gratifacation of pop radio music but if you take the time to listen it gives something 1000 times more rewarding

Because I can relate to the lyrics, and I like how it sounds, also I like how some music makes me feel as I am rather sensitive to that. If i do not enjoy the lyrics and how it sounds then I am unlikely to listen to it. I do enjoy some music without lyrics and of course some music I listen to with lyrics might be in other languages like Norwegian or German or some death/black metal in English is also hard to understand...so for that i like how it sounds not so much the lyrics as I might not understand them.
