I wasn't sure where to put this, so I put it here. Has anyone here seen ''My Parents Are Aliens''? I think mostly people from the UK might know what I'm talking about. It is a TV series, not sure if it's still on now but I used to watch it when I was a teenager, it was on at about 4.00pm in the week, and started in about 2002, could be later I can't remember.

Anyway, for those who have watched it before, I am wondering if the two carers might be on the Autism spectrum, because they always look at the world a completely different way to everyone else, and get confused about other people's intentions and emotions. The kids have to teach them different social rules, and they even had a guide book of how to live in this world. They don't know what to do in certain situations, and in one of the episodes the man states that he has no common sense and so does everything the logical way.

It is a comedy type thing, but it's very interesting to watch, especially if you're on the spectrum, because you can actually learn some of the social rules what the kids teach the carers.

I don't know the show (not from the UK) but I think a lot of these memes are ways of expressing and explaining atypical neurotypes. It goes deeper than television: literature, theatre, etc. You see these kinds of memes everywhere, from Moliere's Imaginary Invalid to Sherlock Holmes to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Malvolio in Shakespeare, etc.

I remember this show. They still repeat it on the CITV channel today. I use to watch this all the time, but at some point it kinda drifted away from me. Probably because ITV no longer had CITV in their timeslot and mostly because the show went down. To answer your question about whether the two carers have autism, well they are aliens from another world you know.

My daughter hates the programme, I don't know if it's the canned laughter or what (that certainly annoys me as there's way more laughter than is called for). But, they are aliens, that's why they do things that way and don't know a lot of stuff. The idea is a bit like '3rd Rock from the Sun'.
