So, OP, just say your dx is official and never mind if they don't believe you have it. You can explain it to them, nevertheless.

Just don't try saying that in a law court or to police. they would check

Am I wrong or can GPs who know nothing about ASD give an official diagnosis? I seem to remember somebody on WP saying they just gave their GP the DSM criteria and the GP said "Oh yes, you've got that" and that counted as a diagnosis. I once did the same with my partner and I think it was more valid because at least she knows me better than any GP, even if all she had to go on was the DSM! Rolling Eyes (I say this ironically, by the way Cool ). I also read a post by someone with an official ASD diagnosis from a high-powered university clinic and with just about every possible ancilliary symptom of ASD and who still wasn't sure she has it.

I'd say "NO!!"... however... Depends were the person lives. What counts as an initial consultation in one country could conceivably be considered as an official diagnosis in another Confused
