I was wondering what people's different takes are on the whole Stormcloak vs. Empire conflict in Skyrim. Which side is more right or is one side or the other wrong? What would be best for the world? Who did you side with and Why? I think it would be interesting to see the debate unfold.

Do one, then play again, then do the other.

At first I thought I would join the Stormcloaks because I really like everything about the Nords, but the more I played the more I did not like them. The racism was the major drawback for me, so I fought for the Empire. Since my guy was a Nord, it made for a very interesting storyline.

Well I rolled a High Elf and the Stormcloaks hate the Elf race, so it was pretty easy for me to decide which way to go.

I read a post on a Skyrim forum somewhere that a High Elf can be a Stormcloak but be prepared to insulted, regularly and often in game by your fellow Stormcloakers, who needs that?

Actually rolling another character and going Stormcloak, as a Nord, would probably be an interesting experience and a different point of view.

Now what I want to know is who has killed the dragon Paarthurnax?

I like that dragon but if I want to do the Blades quest line, off with his head! Not to mention, I have not finished all the Dragon Shouts yet and I won't get anymore help from the old geezers at High Hrothgar, they take it personal if you knock off Paarthurnax....

Paarthunax might deserve his own thread, I really liked that dragon.

Liked? Past tense? You mean you killed him? Joking.

As far as which would be better for the Skyrim world, the Stormcloaks or the Empire, that is a very good question and one no one has answered yet on this thread.

As you can see I was too worried about myself to consider the community at large, what does that say about me?

In my game the Empire won and there are many characters now saying, I don't care who won, I am just glad the war is over. Which seems like a strong anti-war sentiment. Though I have to say whenever I visit the Castle at Windhelm the characters are the banquet table are openly hostile to me. I wonder, can I cast frenzy on them and knock them all off and not go to jail?

Laughing hard, I really have to get to work now...

If we're talking about what's best for Tamriel and not just which side suits our sensiblities, I would still say siding with the Empire would be my choice. A divided Tamriel would be easy pickings for the Altmer. The Empire isn't a utopian force for good, but it still has fostered racial harmony, security, and economic prosperity.

I sided with the Stormcloaks simply because I didn't want anything to do with the Empire since it tried to behead me at the beginning of the game. Plus, the whole siding with the Thalmor thing rankled me. Even if dividing Skyrim makes the Thalmor more prevalent, they'll soon be meeting the business end of my warhammer.

I'd say it's really a difficult decision.

The Empire is currently very deeply tied to Thalmor control. They've repudiated Talos, a major deity. And I get the feeling that the Empire is politically corrupted to a high degree. I mean, if you play the Dark Brotherhood, you kill a major figure in their political structure at the request of another major figure.(And you can kill BOTH)

The Stormcloaks are racists. However, they are strongly anti-Thalmor. They are less likely to have the corruptions of the Empire, HOWEVER, there is a secret about a major Stormcloak figure being used as a Thalmor agent in the past. Given that Hammerfell had success fighting the Thalmor, I wouldn't discount Skyrim's ability to wage independent conflict.

well i look at this in two ways. The first is your character's race the nords hate all other races but themselves so you can still go with them but their still say nasty things to you.

The other way is that the empire has more resources and people then the stormcloaks. Plus i have played both groups i had more fun playing as a imperial but if i remember right storm cloak had better rewards from quests though i honestly dont remember.
