No, I'm not, but right now I'm more aware of what the issue was. A lot more people use 'Derpy' as an insulting word than I thought they'd do, and it's as bad as any form of bigotry.

Very few were offended by her it seems like. I wish Amy didn't let those sensitive souls bully her into changing the voice of the character about how she talks They ruin it for everyone. I hate them. Evil or Very Mad

Yeah, I felt bad for her. It's been a while since this happened, so I've had time to think about it, and I wouldn't say I hate those people that caused this. It's just really sad that an awesome shout-out to the fans turned into that debacle.

It's hilarious, they "underped" her because some soccer moms thought it would offend people with mental disabilities. Really what they said was, "If you have a mental disability, you have to conform to how everyone else acts, or not exist at all." Just by removing or altering Derpy, it's like saying it's not okay to have a disability.

I really like her. Very Happy Especially on days when I'm feeling particularly clumsy myself.

I think she may be a lot smarter than most others will give her credit for.

A few points:

-Having crossed eyes does NOT necessarily equal being mentally disabled.
-Being clumsy does NOT necessarily equal being mentally disabled.

And--even if she were, so what? Why does that constitute an "insult" to mentally disabled people? If anything, it would be a sign of inclusion.

Okay, so Rainbow Dash was impatient with her in that scene from "The Last Roundup." That's just Dash being Dash. The alteration of Derpy's voice and the deletion of her name (just iTunes version, thankfully) was MORE insulting. It implies that if someone's a little different, they have to be changed so they will be "acceptable." (Any FUTURAMA fans reading this: I refer you to "The Cyber House Rules" for another example.)

A side note for those of you familiar with the 1980s MY LITTLE PONY: Derpy reminds me a bit of Fizzy the unicorn (as I recall, she was a bit clumsy herself, and no one had a problem with that). Considering that her (fanon-only) daughter is a unicorn--maybe they could be related? (Similar cutie marks, too.)

I hope Derpy gets more screen time, with her original voice and eyes. There is such a thing as being TOO "politically correct." Rolling Eyes

From what I've heard on Ponyville, Derpy will get her own ep. sometime in season 3.

On a more serious note I myself am not offended. I mean of course shes a scatterbrian, that's her character though. And some people are right, changing Derpy is like saying its not ok to have a mental disability or any disability what's so ever. I guess this comes to show that brony ideas don't turn out as good as everyone hopes. All I'm saying is, some ideas are ment to be only ideas. You think this whole "Derpy getting changed" obsession could of been avoided if they never did something like that?

Personally I don't mind it, I'm happy that they made her canon but maybe they should've thought a little more carefully on how the others, not just bronies, would react.

People only got offended in the first place because they didn't understand what the term Derp refers to.
As the great minds of internet have put it, "This is why we can't have nice things."

I don't know how to feel about this. I love Derpy and would love for her to have her own episode. But will it probably be altered Derpy, right? I like original Derpy.

You don't get it, do you? The only way these things could be offensive is if they are fiction. If it's not fiction, than its just an observation. In fiction, it shows that someone is portraying a certain thing a certain way and is spreading their opinion.
