I was wondering if anyone wanted to befriend me online?
I don't really have many friends. Online I have one but since he got a girlfriend we don't seem to talk that much. I have a couple of other friends who will make sarcastic comments on my Facebook statuses and occasionally we'll talk for an hour or two(like, one every 6 months, if that, mainly on Christmas/New Years in a big Skype convo to see who can stay up the latest[which is kind of sad, I look forward all year to Christmas 'cause I get to talk to friends online I usually don't]).
My one friend I had at college hasn't replied to my texts in three days, and I think I've offended her or something. It's kind of depressing.
I used to have friends online when I was around 13. Everytime I'd sign onto MSN at least three people would message me. Then I don't know, I stopped posting on forums so much, I seemed to not care so much(they were just, 'online') and would cut contact with people over a silly argument, etc. Around this time too I stopped bothering with the real life friends I had. For whatever reason I seemed to enjoy being lonely for a year or two, but didn't really notice what it did to my emotions(made me lack emotion pretty much) and my ability to make friends etc. I just assumed as soon as I'd want to stop being lonely(which I didn't really think would happen) I'd be able to just go back to how I was when I was 13.
But nope. I've tried trying to make contact with those I cut off a while ago and either it's not the same or they want nothing to do with me, and I only seem to be able to make acquaintances at college(everyone seems to have their own friendship groups that I don't want to intrude upon), etc. I only seem to have really kept one online friend who's kind of close throughout the whole of it, but as I said, he has a girlfriend, and a lot of the time he's depressed, which I guess has rubbed off a bit on me(since he's the only person I'm really close to in my life at the moment), etc. Though I greatly appreciate his friendship regardless. I guess it's because we're both quite apathetic and argumentative people we're quite tolerable of one another so if we do fall out we don't really let it escalate etc.
But yeah. I was wondering if anyone wants to befriend me after hearing my heart-breaking story? Sarcasm. But a legitimate question.
I'm 16 years old, nearly 17(I just want to say 17 since for whatever reason there seems to be something so vulnerable about being a 16 year old female that doesn't apply when one's 17...), female, interested in politics, science, maths, computers, electronics theory(I know very little but if someone could talk to me about it I'd just find it fascinating, even if it did end up being one-sided, I'm only recently starting to get into electronics but it's very hands on, but I'm quite a theoretical person etc.), also somewhat interested in technology though no where near as much as I used to be(this week I've been really interested in the PS Vita, reading all the reviews etc.) etc. etc.
In terms of my personality, I have quite a crude sense of humour(I found Saw hilarious), I can be pretty talkative, I'm willing to talk about pretty much anything as long as it's not small talk or sex(I'm not a prude or whatever but when random people online start asking me questions about my sex life half an hour into our first question it's like... extremely off-putting... though I am open to legitimate discussion about sex from a kind of detached perspective, or obviously if we end up romantically involved or whatever, jesus this is why I have no friends lol), urm, yeah, I think that's all that can be said so far. I'm not exactly in an objective position. People tend to lighten up to me after a while, I make horrific first impressions though.
It'd be cool to just have someone I can talk to 'til 5 in the morning during the weekends/holidays, we could talk about anything and exchange YouTube videos(it'd be really cool if we could watch TED or something and then reflect on the content covered), or we could exchange scientific american articles etc. Though obviously as I said I'm up to talk about anything. And obviously it doesn't have to be 'til 5 in the morning. By friend it'd be ideal to be at least an hour a day though.
I know this is a pretty poor proposal, and probably very 'shoddy', I am legitimately lonely though, and I'd really like to just have a couple of people to talk to every now and then. Maybe we wouldn't be compatible but if we both enter this online friendship with a positive attitude maybe it could work.
I was thinking communicating via MSN or Skype would be preferable initially, then later if both of us is comfortable we could exchange Facebook's?
If anyone else is feeling lonely, or would like to expand their online social circle with the addition of my self, either reply to this thread or PM me! Thanks guys. The only requirement would be that you're under 20(my friend is 19 and we get on fine), otherwise I feel the age could be a barrier/a cause of friction. I tend to get along with older people but wouldn't want to exclude any younger people(i.e 13/14) who are feeling particularly lonely, though all I can say is that it's unlikely we'll have much to talk about, not to underestimate you or be ageist.
edit: also, forgot to mention, I'm from the UK! Not that it's of particular relevance. But then again a lot of what was said wasn't of particular relevance. |

| If I was more confident in my conversational abilities, then I'd befriend you. We seem to have quite a few interests in common, and I'm 15. But the prospect of talking to a stranger on MSN or Skype makes me incredibly nervous. If we could talk via text only, with the understanding that I'm not really the best at communicating with others, then I would like to give it a shot. I'm quite lonely, too. I have one friend who I don't see too often. |
