I was drinking my usual 2L pet of beer today, in my dorms' lobby because my very nice roommate doesn't smoke and frowns on alcohol consumption. A pair of policemen walked by, and one of them was bored enough to ask me the usual police procedural questions. I graved him a shortened version of my name , my date of birth... BUT being drunk and all, I thought it would be very funny (SIC!) to give the police botched data regarding my address et al.
I've told them that the pet of beer next to me wasn't at all mine (they couldn't prove it was mine) and they seemed to be ok with that.
But the whole absurdly-giving-botched-data-thing really pissed them off and I'm looking at a 1/7 of my wage going to the state this month.
I already know where to contest the fiend - and I'm going for a "I've been to drunk to know what I was saying" defense.
I really don't expect any sound legal advice, as I'm from an European country and most of you, lawyers included, are from the US.
I could of very easily NOT LIE (when giving false data for the sake of it!) to the police and precisely nothing would of happened!!!
Had any of you done something similarly idiotic when dealing with authority?

What? You have to pay a fine for lying to the police? How did anyone find out that you gave an incorrect address? _________________ Assume nothing, question everything.

I once said I was not on anything, and honestly I was a little bit high....but I had nothing to do with what they where actually investigating, for one and there was no reason to walk into a trap that I could find so I didn't. _________________ It's like alice in wonderland except, my names not alice and this is the real world not a dream. |

They verified it via their radios. I should of expected that given the frustration the beer incident might of caused them. Also, one of them had somewhat of a personal grudge against me. |

Well.... if you're beef is with authority and you like it that way, good luck.
I personally wouldn't bend over backward that far for a roommate. |

I don't "bend over backward" for roommates, quite the opposite.
Hell, if I was expecting anything like this to happen I would of kept my drinking to the room, as I usually do. I was outside for a couple of cigs, and took the beer with me.
You entirely missed the point btw. |

Good to know.

Laps of judgment with the PO? I think I followed along with that okay. The thing I might be missing (and that I wondered about) though is why local law enforcement is around your dorm lobby that much - either they're really bored or there's a lot of drama in there. |

Sorry if I came out as offensive.
They are a sort of campus police. And yeah, they seem pretty bored, I almost made the mistake of telling them to "go chase after a drug dealer or something"
Ironically I was pretty buzzed up on opiates when all this happened. |

Well its probably a good thing you didn't tell them that...though I imagine if I was in that situation I would have been kinda paranoid about the beer already so I don't know I would have made any comments with the word drug in them, I find that comment to be funny in that context but they might not have...lol. Then again If I were on opiates I might not care enough to be paranoid about the beer. _________________ It's like alice in wonderland except, my names not alice and this is the real world not a dream. |

I could figure that being a good portion of it. The times when I was with friends smoking opium or crushing vikadins I felt more derped out than much of anything else. |

That makes m the one non-druggy on this thread. Drugs are a stupid thing, so why do them?

To experience pleasant effects many of them have, is one reason. _________________ It's like alice in wonderland except, my names not alice and this is the real world not a dream. |

Depends what drug.
Can include:
1) Probing your own mind and getting at levels of yourself that you simply can't get at sober (hallucinogens particularly big for this - ecstacy, marijuana to some lesser extent). This could be for problem-solving, reorientation, dealing with 'stuck' moments, etc. Big difference from just getting f'd up - you come out of it with answers that still make an incredible amount of sense when you sober up.
2) Vacationing from problems that you know you're mind will be stuck on, can be healthy if its not a regular basis thing and not a hardcore drug.
3) Somewhat with the last - attitude adjustment at times where you can't find peace with certain things.
I'd have to argue there's a difference between drug use and drug abuse. Drug use is well-timed, well rationed, and in full respect of what the substance can do to the negative if they exercise no self control. OTOH eating a couple ten-strips of acid while blowing 12 inch lines of coke and washing it down with a case of beer or, on the more pervasive, taking your TV or other basic staples to the pawn shop for your habit - that's abuse. |

I can say I've done both.....there was the time I was drunk, took 60 mgs of adderall and then ate some shrooms, not going to lie it felt amazing but I imagine that would be more abuse than simple use as it was a bit extreme. _________________ It's like alice in wonderland except, my names not alice and this is the real world not a dream. |

I never got into mixing mostly because of the health issues (OP was probably okay with a Vikadin and a beer but any more of it and his liver is on a skillet), that and it seems like if you mix the wrong things together - almost as bad as having a bad experience or overaccelleration - is having a bunch of dead spots created in the experience and being rendered half sober for a whole lot of money spent. |
