For all of you car driving Aspies out there, has this ever happened to you? You go to the gas station to get gas, go inside and pay clerk for it, then just completely space out and drive off without even fueling your car.

I am ashamed to say that today was the second time I have done this. Wasn't as bad as the first time though. First time I only wanted $7 worth of gas and had a lot on my mind that morning and then after paying I just got in my car and drove to the YMCA. Only as I was walking towards the YMCA entrance did it just occur to me what I did. I was so embarrassed that I wasn't going to go back to get it out of sheer shame and embarrassment since it was only $7, but then someone talked me into going back. I did and I told the clerk how stupid I felt and she told me it was ok and that it has happened before.

Then here comes today but this time it's $20 bucks worth of gas. Luckily I caught myself when I was only a little ways down the road and managed to turn back around to go get it. The same clerk was working and I just hope she doesn't think I'm a drug addict or something. Again I was also in deep thought when it happened today. I was mentally calculating the points on my stupid Kickback card and forgot to get my gas.

I'm making it a serious priority in my life to never have this happen to me again. Twice is bad enough.

thankfully we don't have that system in the uk, we pay when we have filled up. I do routinely forget the items I've just purchased when in a shop though, as much as I pretend I'm better at dealing with that sort of thing I often leave behind my wallet, money or the item in the store,

I've had my boomerang wallet 8 years now which is a record, it always seems to find it's way back, no matter where I lose it. I'm on my 24th issue of my debit card though.

I have not forgotten my gas (as I generally pay with my debit card, and pay as I fill up) that and I am usually rather desperate for gas by the time I fill up (unless it is a long trip).

I have several times forgotten to get my groceries and such after I paid (partially because I am too busy looking at the coins I got back and figuring out if I already have that year, type and mint, or I have other stuff on my mind. Every time the clerck has stopped me before I got to the door.

I'm the person who always forgets to change the vehicle from reverse after reversing, and then expect it to go forward (since I gun it sometimes). So forgetful.

That is why I keep two spare gas caps in my trunk, as it has happened more than a few times. I wish I had a gas cap that was on a plastic "string" attached to the car.

The car I have now has a gas cap that's attached to the car so no worries about losing it.

You think that's bad, I once met a lady who drove off with the nozzle still in her tank--and this lady was not Aspergers!

I don't really drive so I haven't left without getting the gas, but I'm notorious for accidentally locking the keys in the car. It's usually in the trunk so I end up having to pick the driver side lock and pop the trunk to get them back. It's a shame we leave the spares in the locked house. Laughing

The other way.
Once, I filled the tank and forgot to pay --

I've heard of people driving off and literally pulling the hose out of the pump. Laughing

I have locked my keys in my car multiple times, once with the car running. Luckily my parents got me a backup that goes underneath the van I drove.

I did that many times as a teenager.

A few times when I first started driving I would arrive at my destination and open the door to get out with out putting the car in park or else I would park the car and forget to turn off the car as I got out.

Here we fill up before we pay, so I can't say I've ever done that. I've never forgotten to go pay after filling up, though. I always make sure I have my wallet on me when I pull up at the pump, before I start filling up. And since I have my wallet in my hand, I don't forget to pay.
