Recently, a Dutch website was warned for having misleading product information on its website.
And by 'misleading', they meant 'offering a ridiculous cure for poorly-explained issues'. Here's what it says, translated, about autism.
| Quote: | Autism is largely caused by a shocking experience, usually in early childhood. Autism is a protection mechanism to avoid dealing with the feelings associated with this shocking experience. Because of this, making social contact for people with autism is very hard, but they also experience tremendous fears in dealing with the outside world.
This smelling gel can reduce fears and enhance social skills.
It can open parts of ourselves previously closed off. It's best if this smelling gel is permanently worn around the neck, because it's a long road to fully cure autism. |
That was exactly what it said. It explains autism as being extreme PTSD developed in early childhood, and alleges it can be cured with 'smelling gel' around your neck.
It even has a neat interview with someone 'who was cured of autism by this', who clearly has no idea what he's talking about.
Some other noteworthy claims made on the website (click here to see the autism interview and product):
* Autism is a life-threatening disease, apparently; a 'heavy onset of autism' meant someone had to be rushed to a regular hospital.
* Another product they sell can "cure traumatic experiences in war, even if they were not your memories, but your parents."
In response to the warning, they added to their website a disclaimer saying they hadn't received any complaints, and had customer reviews.
The only review I've seen so far was written by the website's owner pretending to be the guy in the video.
Just wow. |

Would be interesting to hear more about, but since I would say with close to 100% certainty that I have it from birth on, its difficult to believe an incident could bring up the same state. |

lol, that's ridiculous. And I thought Europe was supposed to know more about autism than the U.S, considering it was first diagnosed in Austria. Some people will do anything for money. It's funny, but sad. _________________ "Scotty, one to beam out!" - Captain Kirk

There's a story about The Girl in the Window. Her severe neglect led to repetitive behaviours and she couldn't speak. When social services rescued her and started to rehabilitate her she gained speech and started to recover from her trauma. I think the kind of autism you're born with is difficult to recover from, unless you go into therapy early in life.
There's an acquired form of ADHD so there could be an acquired form of autism. Even people who have severe brain damage can develop special talents. Not saying autism is brain damage but the symptoms are similar in some forms of brain damage. _________________ My autism blog - http://latedx.wordpress.com

| I wore super-smelling gel around my neck for a year and now I'm in the best shape of my life! I used to be afflicted with ignorance, but this smell gel opened my eyes to just how amazing a single product truly can be! |
