If you're planning a trip to the dentist, it might not be the wisest decision to make your appointment with the person you just broke up with.

A Polish woman is facing three years in prison after she removed all of her ex-boyfriend's teeth during dental surgery just days after their breakup.

"I tried to be professional and detach myself from my emotions," Anna Mackowiak, 34, told the Austrian Times. "But when I saw him lying there I just thought, 'What a bastard' and decided to take all his teeth out."

Losing my teeth is one of my biggest fears. Next time I see my dentist I will be extra-careful not to say or do anything to make him upset. Shocked Not that I normally do, anyway. Smile

This made me smile at first. But then I realized the double standard in my reaction, as well as the reaction of the public in cases like this. If a man mutilates a woman, such as the psycho who threw acid on the face of his ex-girlfriend, people are understandably shocked and outraged. There is no confusion about who is the villain and who is the victim if the attacker is male. But if a woman does something equally crazy and violent to a man, like pulling all his teeth out or cutting his penis off, the first reaction is "you go girl! He was probably a lying, cheating, no good bastard who fully deserved it!"

I mean, we all "know" that men are pigs or dogs or whatever, which somehow makes violence against men justifiable or downright hilarious. Whereas women are dainty and compassionate creatures who wouldn't hurt a fly unless the ugly little insect really had it coming. Besides, these stories also tell men "there is one more woman back on the dating market, and one less rival that could get in your way". So that's good news, unlike the lost asset that is a mutilated woman. I'm not trying to be holier than though, just... I don't know really. Cynical I guess Confused And miffed that I belong to the easily replaceable gender that nobody sheds a tear for and that is always the last to enter the life boats. Goes to show just how much male privilege we really have.

Interestingly, this is true. If these roles had been reversed, there would have been calls to hang the man.
However, now it's considered just a tame way of pulling a practical joke, despite permanent damage to his body. This is mutilation.
I've heard people who wanted a man hanged for hitting his dog laugh about this.

I didn't really find this funny. It's rather horrible, actually.

Very true. Society seems to believe that women are repressed and discriminated against by men, but men have to put up with double standards and discrimination too.

Okay.... first, what part of 3 years in prison don't you understand?

Second, it's funny because the guy was stupid enough to go to his jilted ex FOR DENTAL WORK!

Dumbass probably asked for a discount too... Laughing

I think that three years prison for this deed is a rather light sentance, I think that the dentist should be required to pay for the man to have implants to replace his teeth, I guess that this cost will bankrupt her. I think that this case may be a class of GBH.

As a great beliver in the idea of the social contract I think that the dentist (and/or her employer) should compensate the man so that his teeth are restored and he is paid a fair and reasonable rate for his loss of earnings / pain.

That's exactly what I mean. If this had been a woman mutilated by a man, people would not have laughed.
They would, as I explained in another thread, have literally called for him to be hanged.

I believe that those of us who laugh at it only do so because we imagine the incident happening in a comedy. It's something that would happen in a sitcom or a movie. Thinking about it actually happening to someone in real life is not funny at all, but it's the concept that is funny. I would find it just as funny if it were a cheating wife or something instead of a man. Again, only the concept, or the scenario of it happening to characters, not actual people.

I do admit, when I heard about the Lorena Bobbit thing I laughed so hard that I was crying. The fact that she threw it out the car window pushed me over the edge and I almost peed on myself. Then they said that rescue workers had to go search for it and that struck me as funny too. The fact that it did happen to a person is not funny. I would probably be horrified to see something like that actually happen in real life. It's just the concept. And the fact that he cheated so she cut his weiner off. The whole thing is like a joke, but the reality of it isn't funny at all.

We can laugh at those things when we hear them on the news or read about them in the paper because we see so much stuff on tv and in movies that wouldn't or couldn't happen in real life the way it does. In a movie the tooth guy would save all his teeth and have them reimplanted. By the end of the movie he would have his perfect Hollywood smile back and would have learned a valuable lesson. John Bobbit would find his weiner, have it reattached and make porn. Oh wait, that really happened. But you know what? It is funny that he did porn after that and whats even funnier is that he named his movie "Uncut".

I wonder if he was and then it would be doubly punny.

what was he thinking going to the woman he dumped days before to work on his teeth? I am female and If that were me and the roles reversed I would know that I would not willing put myself in that situation.

However, the approprate thing for her to have done was to turn him away instead of allowing herself to be put in a situation where she could not be professional due to her raw emotions. However, he is freakin idiot to have blindly put his trust in her given their recent break up. I mean really what was he trying to prove?

This is just a clusterf*k of bad decisions from both parties. I am sure there had to be some other dentist in town becides his newly ex girlfriend. Rolling Eyes

I honestly dont feel sorry for him whether he was male or female...that is just stupid.
