OK, last few photographs from my last trip:
A pub called The Crown in Market Square, Stony Stratford. Notice also the cooled delivery van in the photo:
By this time we had seen all we needed to in the town and headed north. On the way home, though, I decided to make a little detour to the village of Sedgley, near Dudley in the West Midlands to visit a very special pub by the name of the Beacon Hotel and the home of the Sarah Hughes Brewery. I came to try their flagship beer, their strong (6%!) Dark Ruby Mild, a beer that is especially strong for its style.

I entered the - very busy! - pub and ordered a pint of the lovely beer in question. I then retired to one of the many small rooms surrounding the bar (this is a very old-fashioned alehouse) and took a photo of the pint, served in a traditional tankard!
I enjoyed a few more quick ones of those and then left, taking a photo of the brewery sign placed at the side of the pub...
...and then got in the car to go home. |

OK, here's the start of my photos from Berlin - do sit tight!
Didn't really take any photos on the plane and didn't really take that many in the airport - certainly none that were notable. I didn't take any of the airport bus either, so we begin at Rudow, the terminus of the U7 U-Bahn station:
From there we walked the short distance to the station, where I took a photo of the map of the entire Berlin public transport system:
We then got on the train to Grenzallee to find our hotel. We eventually found our hotel - the Park Hotel Blub - and checked in. When we reached our room, I took a few photos.
The hotel is Listed as a four-star on Expedia but I wouldn't call it that - three and a half at most, I think. Serviceable and unremarkable I would say, all things considered. Most things work (and the shower is good, although very small). The fridge is also quite small with not a lot of room and is clearly there just to sell you goodies rather than for your own comfort. As for the TV, it is mostly German TV channels with BBC World News and CNN as English options. It's a bit out of the town and all the main amentities seem to be in the heavily populated Neukölln area rather than the Grenzalee U-Bahn. The cost of the hotel was £32.50 per night, breakfast not included.

The exterior of the hotel - as can be seen in the right of the picture, the hotel does have a bar but the beer was so outrageously expensive (€4.50 for 0,5l of beer) that we went down the road, where the beer was €2 cheaper per glass!
So, having checked in and dumped our cases we decided to have a wee dander about to see what was happening. The answer? In the immediate locality, not very much. There was an (expensive!) petrol station, a few restaurants, car dealerships and doner kebab places. We decided to have something to eat at the Greek restaurant/taverna just next door. I ordered a couple of glasses of pilsener and set about ordering off the menu. For my starter I chose spanakopita, a Greek spinach pie with feta cheese:

Last update for the evening:
And now the main course. I can't remember exactly what it's called, but it's lamb with cucumber and potatoes cooked in a pot. Not bad at all:

And now for that morning's breakfast taken in the outside seating area of a restaurant. This breakfast was very cheap and plentiful (only €3.45, so just £2.80) and includes various different kinds of breads (out of shot, but I can tell you that they were three different kinds!) as well as ham, salami, cheese, cream cheese, a tomato, butter, jam and cucumber, as well as that lettuce and that hard boiled egg. Even without the bread, it was very plentiful. Yes, the drinks were quite expensive (a 200ml bottle of Coca-Cola was €1.75) but otherwise I have no complaints. Recommended.

OK, how about some more photos?
After having breakfast, we made our way to the U-Bahn station - Grenzallee - in order to (eventually) reach the Brandenburg Gate. Here's a shot of the interior of the station around the railway line. Many of these stations are quite threadbare and pretty dirty, if truth be told:
We had to change from the U-Bahn to the S-Bahn at Yorckstraße. Here's a photo of just outside the station:
Having made our way to the station, I rolled off some shots of the platform area and the railway line whilst waiting for the train:
We then got on and then alighted some time later at the Brandenburger Tor station, which is on the Unter den Linden boulevard, right down the street from the Brandenburg Gate - one of the strongest and most recognisable symbols of Berlin and indeed Germany:
And a shot of the boulevard, with its tourist buses - lots of tourists around here for sure!

under the water, feeding the fish at one of the springs around here
a humming bird perched in the tree
a mourning dove staring at me
an angel trumpet before it fully opened.
the sun was hitting my persian shield plant just right to where it made the plant kinda glow
another water experiment when i was drifting down a crystal clear river, camera under the water facing up towards the sun.
this one was really an accident it looked like this, the lens was fogged up and i didn't know it but it really made the picture i think
last year or the year before i had a birds next in one of my plants, it was a hanging pot close to the ground and the plant hid the nest really well, this is momma bird glaring at me

looking down the road at the traffic and thick smoke at the end.
on the University of Florida on game day, a photography group i am a part of got together and walked through campus to take pictures of people and buildings. here are a few that i took that i like.
rain lily
trying to get a picture of both the sky and foreground (pond and trees) focused right and get the flags flying at the same time
an interesting way for a tree to grow.
