One of the reasons I liked the first Sherlock Homes movie very much is because it pretty much visualized the way my thinking works.
Whether I am a synesthesist, I do have the theory that there might be something there, as I do associate people with colours (there is people that are definitely yellow for me, or blue, or red, or orange, without me being able to explain why that is. They just... are so obviously that colour), as well as certain events. May I ask why that might be important?

I don't know if you have read this or not. IF you haven't; i think that you might find it interesting.

I have a pretty good memory, but most of what I remember about events is moreso the surroundings and environments than the event itself. Like, I can tell you where everyone sat in a meeting a week or two ago, but I can barely tell you what we discussed in the meeting. Stuff mentioned in conversation never really sticks; I need to go over what someone tells me we need from the grocery store two or three times before it sticks, for instance.

@The SunAlwaysRises,

The clip from Sherlock Holmes is a very good example of how overwhelming sound can be for me. However, even on a very good day, I cannot tune out all the sounds going on all around me....anything audible. It causes me to have trouble focusing & staying on task as I am very easily distracted by noise in general.

Interesting. What Holmes experienced would be equivalent to my worse day.

TheSunAlsoRises

My worse day...it gets louder all of a sudden I just run out of chakra then I spend the rest of the day in a catatonic state. And I mean like stoned catatonic. Similar to the cokehead Holmes.

And Sherlock Holmes was 100% aspie, I swear.

Yeah, unfortunately where I live, noise is a very real problem for me everywhere I go. When I am at home, I am assaulted by the sounds of lawn care equipment, someone practicing drums or guitar for hours on end, emergency sirens, barking/howling dogs, cats fighting, booming base from autos driving by, a high school's announcements being broadcast, plus the drone of traffic day & night, etc. I really wish I could afford to live away from all the noise. I can also hear many of these sounds over my own music that I'd like to play without the background noises. It sucks. I tried to get occupational therapy but was told I am too old. so how does one cope with all this stuff? I have noise cancelling headphones, but they are too uncomfortable to wear for long periods.

Seemed close to my normal

My memory is good for remembering verbatim conversations and links between things I have seen or heard before, hopeless at remembering things just because I want to remember them, hopeless at remembering lists, things to do and other random stuff.

the noise cancel headphones I cannot stand as well, but I have had the audicien (shop that sells hearing apparatus for the elderly etc) make custom fitted silicone "sleeves", ear plugs.
I can use them with my IEM's and mp3 player to create something to help suppress anxiety from background noise.

I tried last year to listen to pink noise (you can find 20 min. audio file online), but it was too much at that moment.
For now I have very rich, filling, orchestral music that I play and it helps my nerves relax.
The silicone is comfortable for my ears. I had the hard plastic custom fit ones before, but those caused irritation.

My memory:
I do "clearscreen" all the time. I need all my memory to execute 1 task and when I get interrupted I loose everything.
I try to repeat things I must not forget to myself over and over again and it takes alot of effort to recall those.

I can recall all the phone numbers from the little note we had in the house when I was 6.
I never called any of those, I just had looked at the notebook I guess and then 30 years later when somebody needs a number, I just produce it. It is not a guess. I know my numbers.

I have no clue where the pen is I am writing with or why I am standing in the kitchen.
Verbal instructions do not stick. I make notes and notes and more notes.
I forget to look at the notes.

I remember who the undercover "bad guy" was in several TV programs that I saw in the 60s.
I remember the capers that myself and my older brother got up to when we were young boys; he remembers nothing.
I remember friends who I bump into 30 years later; they have no idea who I am.

I don't remember what I did an hour ago though.

I have problems remembering the names of people and places. I've traveled a lot but I couldn't tell you the names of the temples, national parks, districts, or any other attraction I've been to. However, I could describe all of them in detail.

I love finding out just how much I have in common with so many people on here. I have the same good long term, poor short term memory as others have mentioned. I lose my keys and phone regularly, though I swear I just had them both a second ago.

I can recall that the spark plug in my dad's lawn mower is part # RJ19LM, the plugs in my car are BKR7E's, my old jeep took RC12LYC's. I really don't care that much specifically about spark plugs, yet I still remember them.

I'm the same too. Great long term memory for mostly irrelevant stuff, rubbish short term memory. I always have to set reminders and write notes. I don't often lose things though, but as much as I can I always put thing in the same place so I know exactly where to look for them.

My doctor has told me that I'm categorized as a talented savant due to my memory. I can memorize large quantities of information and regurgitate them if needed. Things also come back to me very quickly.

Long-term memory: not as great as my family seems to think it is......gets frustrating when my mom expects me to help her "fill in the blanks" when it comes to recalling people, places,.....etc.

Short-term memory: Not exactly poor, but very glitchy. One example being that when I was still working as a secretary, I set off the building alarm by accident because I could NOT remember the alarm code. (scary thing was, I had no problem closing the office the previous day, but by the next morning, I blacked out on the code.....and to this day, I still can't remember it)

Life is so unfair. The only thing I regurgitate is large quantities of alcohol.
