Hey everyone, Ive been thinking and wondering again, "does this apply to just me?"
So this thoughts stuck in my head while trying to do my assignment -_-... god help me please...
anyways, do you find it easier to talk to someone about yourself in third person or even 2nd person, than in first person?
for example:
1st person: I, me, am etc.
2nd. She, He, It
3rd, One, they, oneself.
I tend to speak about myself to others, in a mixture of 2nd and 3rd person when i really cannpt find the words to describe myself in 1s person.
I guess this might just be me and a strange quirk i have, but i am curious if there are others.
but right now oneself must take herself back to ones assignment =) |

I do it all the time and most people think I am weird afterwards and walk away.

Your timing for this post is quite a coincidence, as my stepbrother has taken to pointing this trait of mine out in the last week or so.
It usually happens like this:
Person A: "Meg, would you like some of this *insert food item here*?
Person B: "Meg doesn't like that."
Me: "You're right, Meg doesn't like that."
I don't typically refer to myself in in the third person in general, but if the other people in the conversation were using my name, I'll then use my name, as if I'm talking about someone else. I'm not sure why I do this, except maybe for continuity purposes. Also, I guess that people tend to respond for me a lot, or discuss something about me while I'm in the room, so then I feel almost like a part of that conversation, and not the person they are talking about.

I can speak in the first person, but often I speak of myself in the third person, and refer too myself by my name. If someone else points this out, I will start paying attention and speak proper English and refer to my self in the first person.

Done it my whole life to some extent. Also the lack of pronouns.
Speech therapy when little helped a lot. |

I talk in first person when I talk about myself. For example:-
Person: Would you like some milk, Joe90?
Me: Yes I would.

Yes it is a bit of a coincidence isnt it. ^-^ Yeah I am not allowed to speak like this at home, i get in trouble. (my father doesnt understand). at first i used to do it as a child to play a long or be silly but ive found over the years its so much easier to explain about me in 3rd person. |

Stargazer43, must correct oneself in this above statement thus for now with stargazer43's statement they have thus talked in 3rd person, or refering to oneself by name.   |

Not really, I don't usually do this unless I think it might be funny. I do accidentally end up talking about myself using "we" and "you" however when speaking spontaneously/using original speech I didn't check beforehand.

I do sometimes refer to myself by name but that's usually in response to someone else saying my name in a sentence and doesn't happen very often.

Today, I was asked what I needed in terms of communication from the people taking exams in July.
I asked if I could be addressed in majestic plural. Unfortunately, it was refused.
Otherwise, I don't generally refer to myself in second or third person. I can't remember the last time I said my own name out loud. |
