When I was about 13 I was having a lot of issues, had been taken out of school, and at one point my dad suggested to me that I had Asperger's because of a Dateline episode he saw. And I was skeptical of course, but I saw the episode and was a little curious. I'm 24 going on 25 now, and I'm re-researching all this and honestly think I may have it. I work in a home furnishing store and I am a total curtain panel nazi, and that is the one area in my store where I can totally sell the crap out of everything. And it's also the only department where I can remember to upsell ("Do you have rods to go with this at home?"). That is only one example, I wont get into the others. But I'm going through some tough times right now, and it's accompanied of course with some depression, and I have been officially been diagnosed with bipolar. I don't know if I really have that, that was five years ago, but perhaps I do, but I am remembering this and I think maybe I'm an Aspie too.
I have a very hard time with eye contact. I realized at one point every time my ridiculously friendly boss talked to me, he was making straight eye contact every time he talked to me, so I decided to return the favor and practice on him. I get along with my staff real well, they are all as screwed up as I am, so I can sort of make eye contact with them, but I still have a little hard time with my customers. It's gotten easier, but it's still hard, especially if they ain't too sure about me... and most of my customers will look me straight in the eye too.
I'm new here and I just want to know, without an official doctor, am I one of you guys? |

It is not nearly enough information for users of this forum to evaluate your condition, IMO. You are asking for an audience-diagnostic. While I would say you should be looking for a professional-diagnostic and numerous personal-diagnostics before you take any steps ahead.
And, if you do think you have AS. Don't try to train yourself to look people in the eyes. You are reading their soul. If you train yourself to comprehend staring people in the eyes like a "normal" person. You will degrade your natural abilities. You may want to get rid of them though..
This coming from a unprofessional, self-diagnosed AS who can't even get shrink to call back |

It really doesn't matter if you are, as long as you're a nice person you can hang out here as much as you'd like. _________________ Am I the only one thinking the Mods should identify themselves as such before they start banning people?

It's not meant literally. It's just meant to mean that she's totally, officiously obsessed with something. |
