New here, but I am stoked there are other Furs here too. Soutthpaw is a Siberian Tiger. I love anthro fiction, art, games , movies etc. I could care less for the adult side of things which seems to be largely gay, younger folks. There is a Local Furry group here that I just became part of and honestly you would not know they are any different from anyone else.

Think of Renaissance fandom and all the multi-week long fairs they have. the public go to those events and see no problems with it. I am sure some of those folks have sex in character or have some adult fetish with it... I know my sister is big time into it Renaissance stuff, she does jousting with her horses, is part of a guild or whatever, has medievil names etc. Or look at Trekkies or Starwars or Comic con or Anime... the only real difference is the focus of the subject matter. Remember that most of the stories, TV and Video we grew up with is Furry not to mention most current animated movies and many sunday comics ( my favorite online comic Furry Experience Comic) etc. I am also a Therian and naturally my fursona is also my totem animal...

Anyone that has a issue with our fandom can Furk off...

I am not a furry but it kind of looks fun never really met many though. My preference though is that of a reptilian nature so if I was to be an animal it would probably be a lizard of sorts. I am more into cosplay though and I guess it is kind of like cosplay. Very Happy As long as nobody dresses up like Pedobear I am ok with it haha.

Lizards are referred to as Scalies... Reptiles and amphibians I think Dinosaurs too... Dragons, unicorns etc mythical creatures are otherkin...

I think there are a lot of closet furs or undiscovered ones based on the large amount of animal and anthro avatars in use on WP Laughing

I'm friends with several furries, although I don't really consider myself one. It depends on your definition, and I feel on the verge of becoming one, though.

Best thing about them is that they're often introverted or autistic themselves, so they make great friends to me.

I hate that video. Typical media manipulation of our fandom. Its not that at all. Just google Furry games or Furcon or fursuit parade etc.. its just folks having fun. if anything its more innocent than most adult activities. The fandom or Go to a Con (for me), its being able to be a kid again without all the bullying and teasing and not stand out like a sore thumb.
See what Furs really like to do

Is this an attempt to draw a connection between Autism and participation in the furry fandom or is this just a search for like minded individuals on this site?
The latter is cool/awesome/whatever, the former is not so cool.

Yes it is the latter. At least that is my intention just to find persons with the same interests. I posted because the previous poster's video is not representative of what fursuiting and cons are about...
I could care less if there is a higher or lower % representation of any specific group in any fandom. Besides I am sure you could have a psychiatrists field day at any type of fandom or specialty interest convention that is not 100% mainstream.
Trying to balance the site as Bronies here have several huge threads of people with similar interests etc. That's all

I just posted the video because I personally thought it was funny.

No harm intended, but we should laugh at ourselves now and then.

I see furrism is also misunderstood just like diaper fetishism and infantilism and the age play with it is.

How I see furries is people who like to dress up as animals or likes animal like human characters. I don't see what the problem is with it. There are tons of furry characters out there:

Sonic the hedgehog
Tails the fox
Amy Rose
Knuckles
Big the cat

Minnie Mouse
Mickey Mouse
Donald Duck
Daisy Duck

Daffy duck
Bugs bunny

Felix the cat

Betty Boop (she was originally a dog before they made her a human)

And tons of Disney animated movies are furry like because they have animals like humans because they talk.

I wonder if all these creaters were furries? I am sure they had some sort of interest and it's not sexual for everyone.

If people are going to hate on furries, they should hate on Walt Disney or Max Fleicher, and other people who created furry characters. If it weren't for furries, none of these characters would have existed.
