I'm trying Twitter now. I'm finding it a lot easier to handle than Facebook, which was a disaster for me. I had to get away from it! On Twitter, it's easier to ignore what I don't want to read and to keep up with what I do want to read. Does anyone else feel this way?

Incidentally, I'm MonkeyPliers on Twitter, and I don't mind having folks here know that, in case you want to follow my tweets. You'll recognize the design in the picture I use for my account there. Anybody else want to tell their Twitter handle?

I don't like Twitter all that much. Unless you have some active followers, most of the stuff you put out there is unlikely to get a reply or any form of acknowledgement and feels more limited. I'm more likely to get acknowledgement on my Facebook and it feels simpler to use to me, plus I use it for chat daily. I rarely post anything on either though, as I prefer having a discussion on a predetermined topic, like this one!

Facebook is better for connecting with people you know, Twitter is better for famous people you don't know.

They are good for connecting with people from a safe distance - but I can get burned out with them

This is also an annoying trend that seems to be used by some on Facebook, even though it serves literally no purpose on there! Laughing

I don't so much care if someone's famous or not or if I'm "connecting" with anyone I know there. I have e-mail for people I want to catch up with online, I have Wrong Planet for real discussion with a whole group, and I can go to any fan page or search for interviews if I want to read up on famous people.

I like to check out funny hashtags and follow people who are routinely clever or insightful. I also follow people I know, because I find out if they're thinking about anything interesting at the moment. Right now I'm following some people I'm likely to stop following, because they're boring and post too much. But it's okay for the time being. Until I find others I like better, I can just skip over dull stuff, and the more people I follow, the more I might get recommended to others, so more people might see my tweets. It'll take some time to work it out, but I should have something more and more fun to check in with from time to time. As I go, I'll get better at deciding what's worth tweeting (who cares if I put maple syrup in my tea today, but maybe I'll come up with a good one-liner on some subject) and at being concise. I'm not concise anywhere else, as folks here at Wrong Planet can attest. But on Twitter, I have to be.

Facebook looked to me like someone threw up several meals' worth of a rather varied diet all over the page. My girlfriend likes it and spends a lot of time there, but even she complains about changes they make from time to time. She hates some of the decisions they make about the layout and stuff. I'd run screaming from the room, I think.

They're both strange worlds, and I don't really like bothering with either

You can set up facebook to automatically use your tweets as status updates and not end up only updating one.

Yeah I know, you can use the Twitter app so it updates both at once. I was referring to those that hashtag on normal Facebook stats!

Okay, I'm following you guys now (have a pending request for one of you, anyway).

I'm enjoying #madeupstaturday, with today's theme being the internet. That seems to be rather loosely interpreted, with many posts being unrelated and some, such as mine, only being related to computers in general. It's just some silly fun. I found it by following @madeupstats. I'm also following @TweeterRater. It's a good way to get to read lots of good tweets without having to rummage through so much stuff. I like to do stuff like #removeoneletterfilm (which has, unfortunately, become too repetitive now, it seems), #changeoneletterfilms, #Addonewordfilms, and #Tangledfilms. The last two are ones I started, but they're unsuccessful so far, as are some other things I've done or joined in on over there. But I'm learning. Also, greater success will probably come with more followers later on, so my ineptitude is only one element of this. Laughing
