Seems that it's quite common for Autistic people to also have ADHD.

How about you?

ADD is ADHD. There are three subtypes:

ADHD-PH - the hyperactive/impulsive variety. This is usually diagnosed in children who do not yet show inattentive symptoms.
ADHD-PI - the inattentive variety, sometimes referred to as ADD, but is correctly identified as an ADHD subtype. This is someone who shows enough inattentive symptoms for a diagnosis, but not enough hyperactive/impulsive symptoms.
ADHD-Combined - the most common variety. Enough symptoms from both categories.

Just to clarify, I meant that ADD is also correctly identified as ADHD-PI. Both labels are accurate.

And you're welcome. Smile

I have ADHD traits besides ASD, so I voted yes. My symptoms are mild, though.

I don't think I have ADHD.

My friend has ADHD but not Autism (I knew him since he was about 3), but he has some AS traits, like getting obsessed with things and talking about them non-stop.

Um, I not diagnosed with ADHD, but I scored high on the psychiatrist ADHD evaluation test and if I didn't have AS I'd probably be diagnosed with it. Should I vote both?

Well I don't think it's really as high as 66%. (That's probably a result of more people w/ADHD being interested in this thread.) But obviously we are not alone here... In fact, I often wonder if there is a much closer relationship between ASD and ADHD than we currently know... I wonder if this is not comorbidity of two distinct disorders, but rather, a combination of traits that occur along a single spectrum.

Some studies have found as many as 60-75% of people diagnosed with an ASD meeting the criteria for ADHD. Several studies found lower, although I suspect that the lower the percentage, the more likely the study is missing something.

When I was assessed as having Aspergers...NOT the same as a formal diagnosis...just had an interview with an AS specialist who seemed very confident that I had "Aspergers" (even tho this may not exactly be true)..She said that I could not have both AS and ADD..and that my ADD symptoms were part of the Aspergers.....humm........

I am currently being treated for ADD..that is what I have been medicated for ...It does not change the way that I am naturally wired..but ADD meds help so that I can cope a little with the immensity of everything that overwhelms me everyday...since I lead an unusual life...and such...
