I am a solid social democrat. I support policies that strive for effective equality of opportunity, and that requires some equality of starting conditions through equitable schools and elimination of gross imbalances in parental income//neighbourhoods. I support a basic income of C$10K/year, to be mailed out in instalments, support German style labour co-determination statutes, support a financial transactions tax and carbon tax offset by rebates, would replace the income tax with a steeply progressive consumption tax, and generally dislike regressive means of financing government.

I think your definition of a social democrat is synonymous with what I call a liberal progressive, which I call myself.

When there are social problems than I'm a social democrat.
When there are issues about freedom, than I'm liberal.
When there are environmental problems than I support more environmental awareness.
So I would say that I'm social, liberal and green.
The problem is my opinion to the economy. I don't know if I should support a more limited or a free economy.

(I think freedom and social security are not mutually exclusive so I'm not totally liberal)

Your views sound like they fit more with the Green Party than with the NDP. But then I would say that.

You sound like a social liberal with elements of green liberalism perhaps?

You are a person of good sense.

The State is a necessary evil, because not all humans are good. Therefore it is to be tolerated in small measures and doses.

I believe in a smaller, more efficient welfare state though, so I can't be that good. I'm not a libertarian, or if I am I'm only a mild one. And I'm a nationalist conservative, which I'm guessing is at odds with your beliefs on immigration - I'm anti-mass immigration, and particularly believe we should aim to stop immigration from Muslim countries. I support the Union and withdrawing permanently from the much-hated EU and perhaps negotiating a Swiss style direct democracy deal.

I am in favor of prohibiting foreign born Muslims from living in the U.S. except under very special conditions as covered by H-1-B work permits. The fewer Muslims in the U.S. the better off we are.

By and large Muslims from the Middle East and Indonesia show a reluctances to blend in with much free modes of living. If someone wants to live in the U.S. let him leave his Sharia and detestation of women behind.

But many immigrants to America had arrived with strange and unacceptable notions, but those beliefs eventually disappeared in time. Muslim immigrants should be no different.

Not many immigrants there could have had such strange and unacceptable notions. We have hundreds of thousands of Moroccans here, we're on the fourth or fifth generation now, and they're still causing a lot of trouble. Chinese people who reside in the Netherlands can be seen much more as a subculture, whereas Moroccan culture in the Netherlands has often been branded a 'counter culture', a group mostly closed off from the rest of the country, yet the most visible of all immigrant groups through excessive violent crime and disrespect combined with constant demands for privilege and cultural funding.

These people have cost us much more than they've given us, and they show little signs of integrating over the course of various generations. Yet we're still forced to let thousands of them in each year. Basically, that was the main thing that turned me against immigration.

I can't speak for Europe, but integration of immigrants has apparently been more successful in America.

Did you accept all immigrants, even those with no perspective for work, offer them funding for religious schools and mosques, offer them funding to preserve their culture and place a taboo on discussing their extreme over-representation in crime and unemployment? That seems to be where we went wrong.

There are still Jihadi sleeper cells in the U.S.

The problem is that the well assimilated Muslim-Americans won't speak out against the Jihadis loud and clear. Where was the Million Muslim March after 9/11? Nowhere to be seen.
