Hi, just found this site recently after doing research into aspergers.
I highly suspect that I have aspergers and keep on finding relatable forums here.
I'd appreciate if you could give me your opinion on whether it sounds like I have aspergers. BTW I'm 16.
Oh and HEY TO EVERYONE ON WP YOU ALL SEEM LIKE VERY NICE FOLK.
So thinking back to my childhood I remember things like:
-Never fitting in.
-Prefering to play alone in kindergarten.
-I liked collecting things like stamps and stickers.
-In year one I remember my favourite activity was sorting buttons (although I liked other stuff like dressing up)
-I was easily influenced by other kids and believed them all the time.
-My mum always told me off for not looking at people when they talked to me.
-I would ask questions constantly while watching movies and would get upset when no one could explain the minute details to me.
-I had nightmares about a certain textures.
-Sometimes when I thought about the world too much I would go into like trances where I felt disconnected from my body.
-I always made a point of not crying in front of people.
-I liked walking on all fours around the house.
-I had twitches like bobbing my head or squinting my eyes.
-I loved reading.
-Had a lisp.
-If I listened to any sound for long enough it'd begin to sound like a person going "wah, wah" (okay that made no sense)
-In school holidays I liked making scedules of my day.
Symptoms that I've noticed in reasent years include:
-Loud noises like buses scare me sometimes.
-I get smells mixed up.
-Have a bad short term memory.
-Forget names of people or objects.
-I have friends but I don't really connect with them.
-I get scared of social interactions.
-I feel awkward when I'm standing up, I never know what to do with my arms.
-I find it hard to tell if people are being sarcastic or not.
-I take things too literally.
-I can't read facial expressions (like the other day I found out that whatI thought was my friend's "judging face" was actually her "happy" face)
-I take long to understand jokes.
-I find it hard to communicate what I'm thinking.
-I feel uncomfortable talking about my emotions.
-I have tendancies to talk either to loudly or too softly and I talk in too much detail.
-Most of the time I don't know what to say in conversation.
-I am always trying to find something to obsess over otherwise I feel kinda empty.
-I get attached to everything I own, because of the memories I associate with them.
-I have terrible procrastination habits, even when it comes to doing things I enjoy I just end up sitting and thinking about doing them.
-Once I get stuck into something I can't stop doing it and hours pass without me noticing.
-I always get fixated on the small details of things, rather than the bigger picture.
-I like to divide my food as much as I can and eat each section separately.
So yeah. I'm not sure if I'm an aspie because lots of these things NT do as well maybe I'm just a lame person. |

Well, nobody can ever say for certain, except professionals
It sounds like you might be, but please don't take my word for it (because it might just be far wrong )

I would say that could easly be me if you remove a couple of things, so I would say yes, aspie.
I know there is a quiz somewhere on the internet that should be very reliable. Anyone know where to find it if you know what I am talking about?
But yeah, you should probably talk with a professional... _________________ Be yourself, everyone else is taken. |

Thanks both for the feedback
I took a few quizzes and they all said I'm very likely an aspie.
Hmmmm I would like to see a psychologist or so but I'm not sure how to go about it guess I'll do a bit of research. |

Hi Treblecake! Welcome to Wrong Planet! You do sound Aspie to me, but if you really want or need to find out you will have to see a professional with some experience dealing with people on the Autism/Asperger's spectrum. If you go that route, bring a copy of your online test results with you, along with that list of traits you mentioned in your post.
Remember, you are among friends here at WP! |

| Haha, I never know what to do with my arms, either. My gait is off, too. Apparently everyone that knows me can tell from far away that it's me because I walk different. But when I try to walk "normal" it ends up feeling so stiff that it just looks worse. |

| I'm lucky that I'm a female because I can carry a purse and keep one arm occupied. I'll usually carry something in the other arm like a stack of books if I'm walking around a place. If I have neither, it drives me crazy if I don't have any pockets in which to put my hands. |

Hey there! I'm new as well and have been wondering for a while if I'm an aspie or can be placed somewhere on the autism spectrum cause I know that I AM NOT normal And after reading your blog I am now really proud to say that we have both almost exact identical traits except for the fact that I'm 15, and I now don't feel alone
To keep my hands occupied I play with my fingers or touch almost everything I see.. which can be really bad depending on the compulsion towards the object I must touch |

I agree. I love this community. I've learned so much and gotten to speak with some really nice, intelligent folks just in the short while that I've been here.
Welcome! Also, as far as your diagnosis, you should probably speak to a professional about that. |
