I think that you will find that this is a liberal proposition.
Who is it who seeks to use the coercive power of the state to interfere with women's reproductive freedom? Who is it who seeks to use the law to prohibit people from forming the families of their choice?

That's what I meant by "regressivism". |

Who or what is trying to control what people buy or consume? Who or what is trying to force people to live in the Cold and Dark by reducing the "carbon footprint"? Who is trying to "improve" the health of people against their will? Who or what is trying to impose unwanted social and business association on people?
Reproductive matters are not the only issue where liberty and freedom have to be reckoned.

Maybe Canadian progressives are different, but our breed can be a pretty interfering lot if you choose to smoke, eat unhealthy or unPC foods, own or operate a business, home-school your child, or of course (look who you're talking to) enjoy firearms, among other things. Social conservatives are rife with their own hypocrisies, especially if they claim to be for small government except when it comes to enforcing their morality, but I think the question of who's more interfering largely comes down to taste. _________________ The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. - H L Mencken |

Suffice it to say, then, that neither the left nor the right is interested in the liberty of the subject. _________________ --James |
