There are over 7 billion people on the Earth. Almost all of them are strangers to you, and always will be. It's really not a big deal. It's like that for everybody. In my case, I am a hermit type with no friends, so just about everyone I meet is a stranger. Because of my bad memory for names and faces, even most people I have met before are strangers! I occasionally run into people in stores, who recognize me and start talking to me, and I'm thinking, "Who are you, and how do I know you?" I've learned to be civil and casually friendly to them, while trying not to let on that I have no clue as to who they are. A few weeks ago I went to vote in my states primary. One of the lady poll workers there knew me, but I had no idea who she was. She eventually realized that during our conversation, and reminded me that she had been a neighbor of mine until recently moving out of my trailer park. At that point I remembered that when she lived here I had actually spoken to her a number of times while she was out walking her dogs. I also remembered which trailer she used to live in, but she had to remind me of who she was first. I have even had trouble remembering who distant relatives were when I would see them at rare get-togethers.
Don't worry about dealing with strangers. Most people are willing to be civil with strangers. As for meeting someone away from the usual place, just say hi and/or wave or nod. |
