Does anyone else have a problem with staring? I do it frequently, even in public and it is not intentional. I simply see someone walking with something bright and look at it, then my thoughts tend to wander a great deal and my eyes stay fixed on the same location so people assume I am being rude and staring at them. Or they have a pretty bright pin and I get fixated on it . . . and the same negative result happens. My Best friend is always correcting me in public and telling me not to be rude. And I don’t mean to be.
How do you guys deal with staring?

I've gotten out of the habit. I remember how much it annoys me when someone stares so I forcefully stop myself from doing it.

I do the same thing. When I catch myself doing it, I try to focus on something else and let my mind wander, but it's always hard to get back into the same calm empty mindedness I had when I was just starring blindly.

It's very hard to stop.

I didn't realize I was doing something like that until my boyfriend talked about staring and got upset when people stared at him. Now I try to notice when I'm doing something with my eyes that might be rude. I get good practice with this on the bus.

I actually usually don't notice when people are staring at me or at others, since I'm usually not looking specifically at peoples eyes. My boyfriend (NT) shows me what's going on sometimes when we're in public. I'm taking in everything around me, and it's not always faces that stand out and get my attention.

I do not stare at people's faces, either. I usually look past them or at their mouths we they are talking to me. Otherwise it is other things that catch my attention but because I can look so focused, people assume I am looking at them when I am simply looking at something in their direction.

My dislike of eye contact extends to the entire persons body - It is usually uncomfortable for me to stare at someone's body, unless I'm rather familiar with them, so in general I avoid looking at people, which is why when I walk I usually am looking slightly up, or to the side of the path, unless the conditions underfoot require me to look at where I am walking.
