This is part of a series on the BBW, a topic found to be "too big" to fit in any one forum. The BBW will be explored from different angles in different forums.

Does our society pressure BBWs to try fad diets in an attempt to compensate for a condition that's likely to be genetic? Should BBWs attempt to engage in athleticism?

There's no such thing as an obesity gene; that's just a self-reinforcing delusion. Some have a slow metabolism, but the laws of thermodynamics say that anyone can lose weight.

Surveys have shown that obese people usually underestimate their caloric intake by as much as 70%.

Well, there's big boned people, just people with bigger bones that'll add more mass on. I'm not really one of them, but a lot of the "fat kids" I see, the "endomorph" bodytype, it sorta works out that way. Even me right now, just because I'm reasonably athletic and do a lot of squats and the like, I'll not hit a 25BMI unless I drop to like 7% bodyfat or something. So yes, you can't just broadly paint all people under BMI and the like. Though bodyfat measurement is a better measure of fitness, as it takes into account muscle and bone weight. Generally for guys, people say a good bodyfat level for guys is under 17-22% , and for women, it's like 20-25%. So, if your bodyfat is within those parameters, then yeah, you're fine. So while there is some allowance for fat, it's within those parameters where it's healthy.

As far as engaging in athletic activity, I don't see why not. I think everyone should. I think for those "big boned" people, though, there are things where the fat/big boned genes are a genetic gift. Weightlifting is an example, almost all the record setting super heavyweights are fat. It helps for things like that, it's not necessarily "healthy," but I think the "genes" for fat people, basically are there for strength and to grant them higher work capacity. The reason they're now getting morbidly obese instead of "chubby" is because modern society doesn't make people for the most part work in fields and the like, but a slow metabolism, big bones and accompanying muscle mass are a huge advantage if you actually need to do work, that's why humans have adapted that way, just the big problem is, most people don't give enough workload to their bodies to make it any use. It's sort of the same as CS Lewis saying "The same material the great sinners are made of, is the same as the great saints." That's sort of my opinion about a lot of fat folks and exercise.

I don't think society does it, I think jerks who assume that heavy women are desperate and willing to settle for anything are the ones who pressure heavy girls to lose, because they don't want to be thought of as desperate and a second choice.
