Does anyone else ever get totally obsessed over a band? Throughout my whole life there's always been at least one band that I obsess over - can't stop thinking about it, songs get stuck in my head, keeps me up at night, I look into as much info and find as many pics as possible. It's not something I like doing, I just do.

It used to The Beatles.
Then, The Smiths/Morrissey.
Now, Arctic Monkeys.

And the last one is weird. I like them, but I don't think I should be obsessing over them! It's kinda annoying actually.

Anyone else have this problem? Maybe it's because I'm a musician or something and it's naturally what I gravitate towards.

It used to be Linkin Park for me. It got to the point when everyone would identify me as "that one Linkin Park freak". Laughing

Yup! Absolutely. I've had short obsessions with a bunch of artists, too many to name really. I've only had two longer phases though: I fell in love with The Butterfly Effect in my mid-teens, and gained an appreciation for rock music through my love for them. Then I discovered Muse, who got me into heavier rock/metal, and I would listen to their music almost exclusively for a year or two.

Here's another question though: How has your opinion of a band changed since you were obsessed with them? Personally I got sick of both bands for a while, but eventually returned to their music and listened to it on a less-frequent basis. Several years later, Muse are still my favourite band, and Butterfly Effect aren't far behind. Smile

Not wierd.

Stevie Ray Vaughn is my hero!

There are others that I've obsessed over.

I think it natural. The music talk to you. It click in you. I think of it like surfing, Ride the wave.

Hell, the Baby Boomer generation is obsessed with classic rock! lol

It was that annoying obsession that finally made me decide to become a musician, and waiting to begin 9 years ago at 45, has given me a different appreciation and a youthfull energy about playing that alot of people my age, who have played a long time seem to have lost. They don't seem to enjoy it as much any more.

Hey, sometimes you gotta give merit to your obsessions, right?

I'm rather obsessed with Pink Floyd....and at the moment I can't stop listening to The Scary B*tches....maybe unappealing band name but still a great all chick punk band.

I do this all the time.

I actually have made a lot of people I know hate a band called Oasis because I loved them so much. I kinda calmed down a bit after a year or so of being an absolutely avid fan. Then I got lucky enough to meet them and it set me off again ahah.
I've now moved on to other artists - especially an artist called Laura Marling.

Yeah. I got to have a beer with them at Heaton Park - the night when the power went off and they had to give loads of people their money back. I even got a marlboro gold off Noel haha. Greatest night of my life. I just wish I was a bit older when I met them...

Sometimes I cycle through bands I'm interested in, sometimes it's Rhapsody Of Fire or Candlemass or Stratovarius it really depends how I'm feeling though.

Yeah, I used to be obsessed with the Spice Girls when I was a little girl. haha Oh, and Aqua. When I was a preteen it was S Club 7 and Destiny's Child. When I was older I was obsessed with the bands Linkin Park, Kittie, My Ruin, Jakalope, Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation and Flyleaf. I just listen to almost anything now. Actually I'm more into techno now. It's all about Deadmau5 and Skrillex for me.
