Has anyone here been following the drama surrounding the games Kingdoms of Amalur and the MMO Code Name "Copernicus"? It's a shame because KoA has to be one of the most purely fun games I've played in awhile. It's not a perfect game by any meassure but, for some reason I enjoyed it more then Skyrim despite the flaws. Anyway, I hope that Studio 38 pulls through to release "Copernicus" because it looks pretty nice.

My character in KoA is a Level 40 Varani Might-Finesse Blademaster. I played through most of the game as a Sorcer-Finesse Shadowcaster but, noticed I wasn't using many of my Sorcery skills so I decided to Fateweave and try out the Blademaster build. Besides missing the Shadowcaster teleport jump, I enjoy Blademaster much better. I finished both DLC and created a ridiculous set of Armor/Weapons. i'm pretty happy with my character but, I might do another playthrough as a Dokkalfar.

Did you play KoA? Did you enjoy it? What kind of character did you make?

I traded skyrim in for KoA on pre order, and glad I did.

Havn't got around to completing it yet tho, so many games I'm still yet to 100% but from the 22 hours I've played It's wicked fun, not much of a challenge and the side mission have become a bit "run back there, not again !!!" But other then that it's nice, I love the combat system tho It'd be much nicer if attacks from primary to secondary flowed smoother, but its pretty dandy how it is, wish there was more variation in the armours too.

It's dead Jim. eew

38 Games and Big Huge Games the studios responsible for Kingdoms of Amalur just laid off all their workers. So I guess that's pretty much it for a great game. wall

I think EA and steam will still be distributing this. I recomend to pick it up after the price drop that's inevitable.

Sad to hear. I preordered it and really enjoyed it on my PS3. Never played any of the DLC though.

Out of the DLC Dead Kel adds some cool features and Teeth of Naros has a really good story. Each one is roughly the size of Allabastra. They are both a pretty good value compared to some of the DLC out there. I think overall the game was a pretty good showing for a brand new studio. The Gov. of RI was totally out of line to call it a "failure".

For anyone interested in the continuing Soap Opra that is the death of 38 Games. This Gamasutra Article sums it up.

I have 3 accounts: one for a warrior character, one for a mage and one for a thief.

So far I am liking the mage class the most (gotta love mark of flame and summoning/healing...)

My armor/weapon bonuses are usually elemental/bleeding and have health benefits and armor boosts (percentagewise) and I love the DLC which gives you the +80 health and mana. I also usually go with experience bonuses and ranged/melle/magic block efficacy on shields.

The rogue seems to be my least favorite because of how you either slaughter oppononets with him or how inept he is. Mountain trolls in particular are hell with him.

I just got KoA yesterday. So far I'm not really feeling it and have to admit that I like Skyrim a lot more. There could be some angles I could find eventually that'll bring me at least a little more onboard with it but so far its not feeling like my kind of thing. Too restricted, considerably more console-style than TESV IMHO.

Yeah, I'm someone who likes to rant against the consolization of PC Games (Skyrim being one of them). However I liked KoA because the active combat was pretty fun. Each weapon has some cool effects that are ativated by the way you time your key presses. I also liked the character developement way better then Skyrim. Skyrim I got about 50 hours of game play in when I finally decided that a mistake I made in assigning my perks was bugging me so much I couldn't go on. If you make a simular mistake in KoA you just visit a Fateweaver. I'm a compulsive re-roller in TES serries (and the Fallout serries). So being able to alter my character mid game is a big possitive for me.

Yeah, it seems like you need to be really judicious with your use of the skill trees in Skyrim to get anywhere. I had a few false starts, also I have to admit - if someone wants to make pure mage characters that they'll likely not find it much to their liking (I made one as a third try just as experiment to see if I could do it - got tired out with it because it just seemed like it took too much time to hit the perc explosion that accompanies 100 enchantment or alchemy and that my magic wasn't strong enough to really blaze a trail in the interim).

One question though om KoA, can you really not jump? I haven't found the option and if I'd rather sneak around behind a tent and backstab a brigand I'd like to utilize that option rather than being forced (since I can't climb a two foot mound of dirt) to walk up face to face and attack.

I think one of the bigger problems with Skyrim Magic is it doesn't scale well after a certain level bracket so you'll see your fights taking a bit longer then if your just weilding physical weapons. Also even if you get the Stealth Casting perk from Illusion offensive magic just doesn't seem to be as stealthy as a bow. I get around this on my magic based character by using a Conjured Bow. He's just a wandering monk in plain robes but, with the right perks in Conjuration and Alteration he's got skin as tough as steel and he can summon a bow or dual swords and slice you to pieces. Did I mention he's a Breton with full Atronauch so he's virtually immune to magic at best when you cast spells at him your just recharging his mana pool.

The only places you can "jump" are disignated platforms. Other then that you can use the base space bar roll to manuever fast around targets but, you need a pretty high sneak skill to pull that off sometimes. Also the rough tree gives you a Smoke Bomb that will turn you invisible for about 10 sec. Pretty much garrentees you a chance to get a back attack. It's also great for sneaking away from ambushes. Or you can use it to roll into a big group of mobs and stun them and kill them one by one.
