ok so I'm 90% sure that I have aspergers, (but I won't go into detail of why because I'm sure that annoys most people) but I'm scared to tell my mom about it. (I'm a 14 year old girl btw) She's the kind of mom that would laugh at something like this. (not that she's mean, she just doesn't handle these things well) and I'm sure she would force me to tell my dad, who's she's divorced to and I know he would mock me about it. I'm not very close to either of them.
my younger sister was diagnosed with ADHD last year, and she handled that badly, and it made her supper stressed out. I know she would handle my possible aspergers the same way.

normally I wouldn't tell her about something like this, but I'm going into a huge high school next year (from a very small middle school) and I know that she's gonna notice my social issues. Should I wait and see if she figures it out herself, or just tell her?

I'm sorry for posting this, because I know most people hate reading there's things, but its been causing me a lot of anxiety the past fer days. Any response would be hugely appreciated. Embarassed

Nothing to say sorry about, fefe - you're among friends here. Since I believe in having open lines of communication, go ahead and tell your mother. She'll probably doubt you and say high school will be fine.

I'd encourage you to tell your mother, but...

This is exactly why I haven't told my mother that I suspect I'm an Aspie either. She wouldn't believe me, because I seem to only be borderline and have "decent" social skills compared to other, diagnosed Aspies. Plus, my social skills have improved A LOT since my childhood.

If you aren't having any problems, then there is really no reason to tell her right now. If you are having symptoms that you feel you need treatment for, tell her what the symptom is and ask her to make you an appt with your pediatrician. Mention to the Dr that you read some things about AS and you feel that you may have it. See what he says.

There is no cure for AS or treatment specifically for AS, they only treat the symptoms.
