I play both current and retro games. I even downloaded classic games from the PSN like Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic CD, and Namco Museum Essentials Demo. Also, I'm currently playing R&C All 4 One on my PS3.

| I personally prefer old games (grew up on NES and SNES) but I do like the occasional new PC game. Usually I like to play older pc and dos games. It just seems like what passes as a game is not really that compelling. (prime example is MW3. The original was groundbreaking, but by the third installment they made not effort to be creative) |

I don't think theres anything particularly "bad" about modern games, but it's just...they don't seem to "grab" my interest in the way old-school stuff does.
I think it's because old-school graphics are more... I don't know, ambiguious. Like it leaves something to the imagination and lets you come up with your own ideas on what things exactly are, and I really enjoy that aspect.
I also love a fair amount of "Indie" games, but I guess those would be classified as retro too. Hey, I can't help it - I just love nostalgia 
All that said, I do like a few "modern" (if you can call them that?) games : such as Quake (the original was awesome with it's weird lovecraftian feel), Call of Cthulhu Dark corners of the earth (it had polyps!! IT HAD POLYPS!! AND A SHOGGOTH!!). Yes.

I enjoy both retro and newer games, but find a majority of my game playing is more toward the older games. I actually own an old Atari 2600, an NES and SNES but choose to play those older games through emulation. The best emulators of course are running on a Windows based PC but I use this Android tablet more for them. I also have a cheap knockoff of a Sony PSP that emulates GB, GBA, SNES, NES and Sega Genesis which does alright for Gameboy and NES games but horrible on the 16-bit consoles. If you are interested in one of these devices they have them all over eBay, just search for "mp5 PSP"......I guess they say "mp5" deals with emulation. Ironically it plays GBA roms better than the 16-bit......go figure on that lol. I also recently got a number of emulators running on my Nintendo DS via a flash card. I have a PS3 available to use anytime but the only game I really play on it is the version of Mortal Kombat II which was downloaded from the PS Store.

Retro Retro Retro Reto 
I love the old retro systems a lot better than our modern, made in china cheap labour, consoles we have today
The NES (Nintendo) SNES (Super Nintendo) Game-boy/colour/advance/super and the N64 will always have a special place in my heart (and arteries considering all the junk food I consume while playing non-stop Super Mario).
The point is I love the classics Now don't get me wrong, the Xbox 360/Ps3/stupid-Wii are cool, but they seem to break easily and need a lot of maintenance. I found a 27 year old (take a few or less years) Nintendo system that still works to this very day. And by the look of it, it's seen better days. Now let's say we got as rough as we did with the Nintendo I bought with a modern gaming system, The modern system would stop working immediately. Why? Because these console companies have a new marketing stragedy I believe and here's what I think it is:
Less quality = more units sold = more $$$$$$$$$ Cha Ching! I think they down the quality so the user has to go and replace their unit faster which gives the company more money.
I can see a nice niche in the console market for do-it-yourself-home-repairing shops Don't you all agree? lol

| I play both modern and classic games, but it's apparent that they don't make them like they used to. There is the occasional modern game that I enjoy, but on average, I think there was a certain quality that games used to have, that I just don't see as much of in new releases. Devs used to take risks, and put their all into the games they produced, as opposed to just trying to cash in on what's popular. I mean, sure, game development has always been a business, but it used to be a business people got into because they were passionate about the products they were making, as opposed to being in it only for the sake of profit. To be fair, some devs still do put a lot of effort into their games, but those games tend not to sell very well. It'd take a while to list all the things wrong with this gen, so I won't bother. I will say though, that in an ideal world, I wouldn't be a retro gamer at all. That's ok though. My backlog extends back to last gen, and I've slowly been building up a retro backlog in the form of digital downloads. If I ever feel like playing something that's new to me, but is from a past era, I can. I'm seriously considering going on another retro gaming kick. |

Both. I'm from the Commodore 64/ZX Spectrum generation so I love old 8 bit games - it seems that with the limitations of the hardware more effort had to be made to make games fun to play rather than just visually impressive. I can still spend hours playing something like, say, Rick Dangerous or Last Ninja. I do like newer games too - I have an Xbox 360 (favourites - Burnout series, Guitar Hero variants) and plenty of pc games (Football Manager, strategy/sim games like Civ, casual games (Plants vs Zombies, Angry Birds, Zuma etc)), and timewasters on my Android tablet - Greedy Spiders is frustrating as hell.
I guess what I'm saying is that fun is more important than platform for me, I'm not a purist.
