Yeah... So where to begin.
Im 24 and live in a small town in West Virginia. I have nothing but failed relationships and a two year old son who is probably the only reason I decide to stick around. I am currently unemployed (again) and living alone (again). I get to keep my super cool son one day a week. He is extremely smart for his age and I am so proud of him. He just turned 2 this month and he can form his own sentences an know what they mean, he can count to 10, and he can sing his ABCs and only miss a couple letters but it seems to be because he gets in a hurry. He even knows a whole deck of flash cards for ages 4+ (Animals, Shapes, etc.)
I have friends I guess but im not super close with anyone. My first real relationship lasted 4 years and was with the mother of my child. Ive gotten close to one other girl since then and we were together about half a year. She moved in because of circumstances and it ended just last week. I have been having a hard time dealing with it because I actually felt/feel something for her and that never happens...ever... It was actually because of this breakup I basically posted my life story on a popular "answers" site and someone noticed that I might have AS. This is something I had never heard of and it really made sense when I looked into it. I have been doing some research for a few days and taking tests and it just clicks. At first I was kinda horrified to be honest. It's kinda crappy that it cant be "fixed", so I guess I shouldnt look at it as something thats wrong with me or that I need to fix it.
Ive always felt like I have had to study social situations and mimic what ive learned to handle them properly. I actually have to think about what someones doing with their body language, tone, etc, or else I miss it completely and im just way off base. Ive never been able to empathize properly either. I just tell people what I think they want to hear, but I try to put my own spin on what im saying so I dont seem fake. Ive always been brutally honest with my opinions and some people respect that, but really I dont think they do sometimes (Especially women, oh god the horror stories).
I spent about 5 years of my life (13-18) with an intense obsession with computers. I learned a list of programming and scripting languages, several operating systems, and even hardware. Basically I can do anything with a computer, if not immediately then give me a couple days. I even got into designing hardware for a while. I wrote a PC operating system one time. It only took a few commands and had a pong game I wrote on it, but it was all just for fun. I still like to write small 2D video games for fun from time to time. More recently I have picked up an interest in guitar. Anyone thats been around me since I picked it up about 4 months ago has said I have progressed extremely quickly. I have friends that have played for years and I can do stuff that they cant. I am also picking up a talent for playing things I hear without looking at the tabs for it. I guess not everyone can do this and I think that maybe its a bit of the sound sensitivity that can occur in some aspies. Ive always had better hearing than most people. If I ever heard nothing at all I would probably freak out because its never happened. Theres always a noise somewhere.
Well anyways I just thought it would be nice to be part of a community of people that may be able to understand me a little better. I havnt told anyone that I think I have this yet. Really I get depressed sometimes and id like to have a place where I can talk about my problems and be accepted. So is it cool if I hang out here for a bit? |

Sorry you have to go through that. At least though you learned about this before you are like 70 or like that you know. Anyway welcome, I'm a newbie too and I am a person with pdd-nos.
Also I heard about the sensory issues, there's touch, eyesight and hearing that gets thrown up alot in the websites that I read. It's kinda where a person may and exceeds better in subjects be really touch sensistive where they can work with their hands but can be hurt or weakened in their eye sight and hearing as a result. Though the most common senses that excell is touch and eyesight, it's kinda rare with hearing. Though with those that are better with their ears tend to be better with music and foreign languages. Sorry for the lecture, its just some stuff I read and reading about you being 'new' and excelling in hearing. Just figured I'd tell you. |
