That they moved to europe doesn't mean that they were not related.

I never said we aren't related to neanderthals, I said they are a separate lineage - which means they did not evolve into homo sapiens, which is what you said. Unless that isn't what you meant.

I fail to see the distinction. Humans moved out of africa in waves. Neanderthal was one wave, homo sapien was another.

Neanderthal died out in europe, evolved into homo sapien in africa.

You *could* say that neanderthal "evolved" in europe and therfore "weren't related - but they just maintained the same functions over millenia. Homo Sapien added functionality.

How else would I state the evolutionary steps?
The many names of pre-humans make "Neanderthal" easier.
The difference in behavior is in the polular culture.

God point though

The most recent species that we can say for sure is an ancestor we shared with neanderthals was homo ergaster. But I think you'll find they were just as pack-like as modern humans.

Neanderthal DNA has been sequenced. They are a different species from H. Sapien. Lots of similarity of course but still different.

No one really knows the common ancestor of H. Neaderthal and H. Sapien for sure.

I *now* know to use "neanderthal behavior" as the argument. Wink
